Ma-tek, Province of (AKA Commonality State of Ma-tek)
Famed amongst the Iluvauromeni for the outstanding work-efficiency of its majority Human population, Ma-tek, like the other Provinces of the ICEL (Iluvauromeni Commonality of Everlasting Light), is primarily home to three Sentient species: Humans, Nenyans, and Quendi Elves (although there are numerous other species that have moved into the ICEL in the past few years, thanks to the ICEL's compassionate refugee acceptance program and relaxed immigration laws). The Human population by far outnumbers that of the Nenyans and the Quendi combined; most of the Quendi are Noldor immigrants from Menelmacar, but there is a small Sindarin population.
The capital city of Ma-tek, Tek, is the most densely-populated city in the ICEL, but also occupies the smallest area of land.
Ma-tek was an independant state for nearly one hundred years following the fall of the old EOTEF (Empire of the Eternal Flame), which preceded the EOTED (Empire of the Eternal Dawn). Known then as the Commonwealth of Ma-tek, it was a brutal dictatorship engaged in a constant cold war detente with its neighbour, Ax-turath. For one hundred years Ma-tek expanded its military wildly, well beyond its capacity to actually support its forces - and the population's capacity to trust its government any further. No-one, on either side, much desired a war, but the despotic governments of both states were at loggerheads constantly; eventually, this resulted in the One Day War (see Dawn, Revolution of), which in turn resulted in the civil war which began the current Dawn Era - which spawned first the EOTED, and then, with the creation of the Iluvauromeni Constitution, the ICEL.
The Ma-tek economy today is dominated by the services industry.
