The PopularFreedom Rugby League (PRL) is the top level of rugby in the nation of PopularFreedom. It contains the majority of PopularFreedom's internationally-known clubs. There are now 10 clubs in the PRL after 2 more joined for the upcoming 2006 season. The points system for the upcoming 2006 system has changed so that a win is now worth 4 points, a tie is worth 2, while bonus points are issued for scoring 4 or more tries, as well as for losing by 7 or less points. The playoff system is structured so that the top 4 teams at the end of the season earn a birth to the playoffs. If there is a tie for a playoff spot, there is a match at the end of the season where the team with the most points from the previous season hosts it. The two teams with the least amount of points at the end of the season are relegated to tier 2 of the PRL while the top 2 teams in tier 2 of the PRL will be promoted beginning in the 2007 season.

The current defending PRL champions is the Lenita Legions located in the city of Lenita, PopularFreedom.

History

• The PRL was formed in 1984 with eight teams.
• In 1987 it expanded when the Pearson Cliffs Pirates joined.
• The league lowered its numbers by one after the 1988 season when the Victory Union Cowboys folded.
• In 2006 season two additional teams joined the league, the Locke Harbour Blues from Locke Harbour South and the Magna Carta Crusaders from the city of Magna Carta joined the league.
• In 2007 the league announced the expansion of the league. Part of this expansion would see two tiers where the lowest two teams in 2006, the Locke Harbour Blues, and the Locke Harbour Dragons would be relegated to tier 2. Tier 2 would also include the Camelot Wasps, Sacredicity Saints, and the Brunstone Avalanche from the now defunct Rugby Premier League. Finally the league will welcome two expansion franchises in the Loyalty Bay Tigers, and the Victory Union Saracens.
