History

The Cosmonautical Cooperation of the Continents of PEEL (CCCP) is the effective brainchild of General Jorma Harkonen, who was Marshal of Uudestaan at the time of the Dominion Wars. Its conception came about during the war itself, and is almost a direct result of the discovery of the Neo-Urallian space fleet. Up until that point, the greatest fear was the “illegal” space fleet of the Holy Dominion, but as it turned out, that was devastated by an even greater space force, consisting of ships ranging in size from “Starfighters” to apparent Capital size spaceships with powerful weapons and cloaking devices.

Unlike the Dominion, that was forced to surrender any remaining space assets to The Coalition and others following its defeat, the Neo-Urallians were left largely untouched by the war, given their main powerbase being many thousands of miles away from the region. Despite almost doing the Coalition a favour by playing a large part in the destruction of the Dominion’s space forces, it was fairly obvious that the Urallians were out for themselves and looked to the Dominion’s downfall only for their own supremacy in space.

The Neo-Urallians had already proved themselves as a dauntless and ruthless terrorist force and now a world power – the thought of them being able to operate at will, unopposed, above the region troubled many. General Harkonen was quick to build on the friendship and links he had forged during Uudestaan’s time in the Coalition and proposed a “pooling of resources” to combat the threat of Urallian space domination. The CCCP was seen as a natural successor to the Coalition, being based primarily in the New Americas and encompassing nations of all ideological areas from Plutocratic states like MDKCorp to Communist nations like Pastocia – all united by a common goal. Many of the former Dominion nations also joined, and they were able to bring their existing knowledge of space to the Alliance. General Harkonen often stated his desire for the Alliance to encompass the whole region, which is made apparent by his deliberate choice of the phrase “Continents” (rather than “Countries” perhaps) even though this is a slightly inaccurate term, considering PEEL incorporates only one Great Continent, but rather many Sub-Continents.

Unfortunately, many nations in the south of the region remain rather cold to the idea, as the concept of the CCCP is often described as hypocritical. The Dominion Wars largely started because the Holy Dominion was flying in the face of the significant DROOP Space Treaty which strictly forbid individuals or governments from developing and launching space objects or vehicles armed with weapons that could be used against the planet. The Dominion built and used a space cannon using adapted EMP technology. However, the ideas of the nations that played the primary role in defeating the Holy Dominion to propose a treaty that also clearly disregarded the DROOP Space Treaty offended several other nations such as Teral and New Cyberia, and also nations that were “on side” during the war – Zedoljev and notably Sargus, who championed the DROOP Space Treaty in the first place. The fallout and resulting Space Law turmoil has left Coalition supporters such as Ivorila and Slimmy with no way to back the CCCP, even if they wanted to. Several bitterly fought DROOP sessions have left work on CCCP development all but stalled.

Emblems

Symbolism of the Emblem

The primary colours of the Alliance are Red, White and Blue, and are deliberately chosen for symbolic values. Red equates the Socialist and Communist nations of the Alliance (and of the region as a whole) – Blue equates the opposite – the more Free Market nations. White stands for peace and clarity (understanding) between the two. The emblem shows the three colours intertwined together to represent union.

Proposed Markings for CCCP Militaries

The above illustrates the proposed use of markings on military vehicles to identify them of belonging to nations of the CCCP. Mostly intended to complement rather than replace existing national markings, such initiatives have come under criticism from outside the CCCP who question whether the Alliance is little more than a huge military union, and by extension, they question the motives of such things.
