Details

The GDI is a mutual defence alliance with some interventionist ideals aimed at protecting the rights of free, democratic nations. The Global Defence Initiative is an alliance of nations that together, stand for Freedom, Liberty, and the independence of Sovereign nations. Any nation, large or small, from the five million population starters to the seven billion giants is free to join the GDI and defend democracy.

To join the GDI a nation must have a democratic system of some kind, and must have the following five basic freedoms:

  • Freedom of Speech
  • Freedom of Demonstration
  • Freedom of the Press
  • Freedom of Assembly
  • Freedom of Religion

The GDI also pledges to defend democracy if it is in danger; acting also as an anti genocide unit that will forcefully halt genocide and the persecution of ethnic or religious groups if neccessary. The GDI will defend a member nation in full force if attacked. Members will be excluded if the leadership of the GDI believes they are going against the ideals of the GDI.

Criticism

Several nations feel GDI is a terribel alliance, or goes back on its word. The Republic of Kanami has long since withdrawn from GDI, due to GDI's treaty to end The Hanover Conflict. Kanami has accused the alliance of being biased, and some even feel the slanted treaty was a plot to get Independent Hitmen on the alliance. I.H. had stated they would withdraw their membership on the basis of Kanami's actions againstStevid. Many have concluded that because I.H. was a much stronger nation than Kanami, GDI purposefully slanted the treaty against Kanami to regain I.H. The Empire of Magic Sorcery, is also another withdrawl, feeling the same way as Kanami.

Other countries such as The Kingdom of Emerald Springs The Queendom Aqua Anu The Principality of Kurona, and the Benevolent Dictatorship of Iuthia have all refused membership. Although GDI has sworn to everything in the above, Questers has openly mentiond definitions and constitutions are not neccessary, nor are they always a good thing. A lack of various definitions and a constitution allow a force to operate whenever and however it needs to, without someone ready to point at a rulebook and say You can't do that. To operate without restrictions is to operate to ultimate efficiency. This would show signs of wishy-washy behavior. The Almighty Empire of Zukariaa was admitted despite committing extreme war time killings, although a majority were against military populations, some feel this was a fudged statement. I.H. stated in their application they swear to uphold everything GDI upholds, however, I.H. is a strong supporter of Stevid which is well known for their gross abridgment of human rights.

Though GDI still preaches it wants to help democracy flourish and help protect young countries, it still refuses to recognize AHSCA as united union and free and still under the controll of the dictatorship of RedTide2, the United States of Independent Hitmen, and the Empire of Stevid. Although all nations have pulled out of the region and haven't immediatley expressed intrest in returning, it's clear GDI and HotDogs2 have no desire to recognize it as a free state.

Praisers

Admist the Criticism, many praise GDI for it's strong sense of human rights, and freedom in the worldnoble directive to uphold the basic freedoms all of humankind has a right to, and to defend these said freedoms from the unending and uncompromising forces of oppression and injustice that plague the world daily.
