Overview
The Principality of Mathilde is Bryn Shander's only property in the Mars system. At 150,000km above the planet, the principality is in a high, stable orbit, and makes it's way slowly around the asteroid fortress that it takes it's name from, Mathilde. The Principality contains 228 colonies
History
The Principality of Mathilde was formed when a fleet deployed from Axis began work to capture two asteroids and send them to the inner solar system. The first, Mathilde, went to Mars. The second, Ida, was sent to Earth, where it was parked at Earth-Luna's L5 and turned over to Liebermonk. Shortly after Mathilde's arrival at Mars, Allanea attacked Liangite colonists with a nuclear weapon and triggered the One Day War. The war, and subsequent destruction of Allanea, helped to shape Bryn Shander's policy towards Mars, pushing the nation to take a hands-off approach with the planet. So far, Bryn Shander has indicated no intention of aquiring real estate on the planet's surface. However, an attempt was made to aquire Phobos, but it was dropped shortly after it was decided by Sunset that the moon would become a joint MIDAS II-ToY base.
