The Great Communist Schism

The Great Communist Schism was a major event in the history of the PEEL Region.

In 2059, after months of disagreement, diplomatic spats, and in-fighting, the COMECON Alliance, the largest group of communist and socialist nations in the world, was split in two. The final blow came on March 24th, when, during a COMECON Summit in Pastantinople, delegates representing the nations of Yugopatomia, Bamonia, and The Sunrise Forces walked out of the meeting in protest.

Within days, the the outspoken leader of Yugopatomia, Premier Whoopwhoopwhoop went on Regional television, announcing that the three nations have officially ended their long memberships in the COMECON and were creating the CommIntern, a new military alliance dedicated to the spread of international communism through violent popular revolutions, funded and supported by CommIntern.

With shockwaves spreading out across PEEL, The Crunge also announced it's departure from the COMECON, this time based on it's aggressive military history and the denial of political freedoms in some of it's members.

For the rest of the year, the COMECON lingered on, a frectured shadow of it's former self, powerless to intervene as the new CommIntern steadily built up it's military and economic strength. The final nail in the coffin came in early 2060, when COMECON's co-administrator, Pastocia underwent a election for the it's leader and the pro-COMECON leftist, Third Consul Matthew Gregory announced that he would not seek a re-election, and was succeeded by Katherine Minos, a moderate politician who supported Pastocia's exit from the aging alliance. She would not have to wait long, as just just 2 months, The Imperial Senate voted to leave the COMECON. Pastocia was soon followed by it's ally, Weinersteinston, leaving the alliance with only it's founding member, Nurdbotia and it's satellite nations. Soon after, Nurdbotia announced the official dissolving of the COMECON, ending the history of one of the longest-lasting and most influential alliances.

In the weeks following the collapse, Pastocia announced the creation of The Delian League, a new moderate alliance, who's objective is to improve the outlook of socialist nations around, while at the same time, providing a counterweight to the aggressive CommIntern...
