North Ahjeezistan, officially the Kingdom of North Ahjeezistan,(Tiàrtír:王国北耕地, Ranshapahjeezstan) is a medium sized nation in the fertile plains of Northern Ahjeezistan, inhabited chiefly by cricketers and tea kettles. It is bordered by Wantiristan to the north, and the People's Republic of South Ahjeezistan to the south, possessing a coastline of 4,830 km (3,000 mi). Its capital and largest city is Moss Bay, founded by the explorer Liam McCarthy.

Much of North Ahjeezistan was the center of the Mashan Empire in the fifteenth century, and was later ruled by the British Empire. It became a new nation in the Commonwealth on 11 November,1947. Queen Elizabeth is head of state. The nation has been democratic since its inception and has not yet gone the way of the communist southern part of the former Ahjeezistan colony. Since Lord Morrissey, Lord Terresond, and Lady Senator Simpson's terms as Prime Minister, the nation has seen remarkable growth, catapulting it to a high Human Development Index.

History

Main article(s): History of North Ahjeezistan

Ahjeezistan has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and the tribes there formed the Mashan Empire in the fifteenth century. It was the first Ahjeezistani nation-state, and in its Golden Age the empire included North Ahjeezistan, South Ahjeezistan, Wantiristan, and the peripheries of eighteen other modern nations. Mashan gradually waned, and it was conquered by the Wantiri tribespeople in 1833. The Wantiri domination was shortlived, the British Empire took control in 1837.

Under the British Empire, the economy of Ahjeezistan declined from its place as one of the most developed of the world's economies to a nation wracked by chronic poverty and economic inequalities. During this period, many English, Indian, and Chinese came to North Ahjeezistan. The British Rape of Gunjizan in 1931 is considered the prime example of exploitation under British rule. National hero Quenri Reptiàr led the movement to remove the British, who, fearing military engagement, something they could not afford due to World War II, agreed to allow North Ahjeezistan self-rule, on the condition the communist Reptiàr was not allowed into government. A member of the Social Democratic Party, Lord Shackleford, became Prime Minister instead. The south broke away from the new self-ruling monarchy, and formed its own republic under the Ahjeezistani Unionist Party of Shummy Chartiàr dedicated to destroying the British, but his government was defeated by the South Ahjeezistani Communists, who hold power to this day. The poorer South Ahjeezistan has long had strained relations with the the North, and it has appeared several times to be likely the two would go to war. North Ahjeezistan's Armed Forces are not comparitively well-funded or well-equipped, and many in North Ahjeezistan fight politically for strong national defence. The leader of this movement is Lord Ferton, a Liberal Democratic MP from Gonley Park.

The idigenous people, Tiàrtírs (Tiàrtír:人女, meaning "men and women"), who live in the less fertile north, at one point launched a democratic campaign for independence, the Republican Tiàrtír Front. It ruled the nation in coalition with the Green Party of North Ahjeezistan between 3 May, 2020 and 5 January, 2021. This movement has died down, and neither the Front nor the Greens have any seats in Parliament.

The 31st general election produced a win for the traditionally dominant Social Democrats, their first since 2018, when Lady Averley of the Front defeated Lord Tom Allen's government, under Lady Graham. Between Averley and Graham was the longest serving Prime Minister in North Ahjeezistan's history, Liberal Democrat Lord Arlonway, who served for fifteen uniterrupted days. They formed an alliance with the centre-right Liberal Democrats against the Nationalists, who took power in the 36th Parliament and led the nation to war with South Ahjeezistan.

Politics

The titular head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, but real political power rests with the Prime Minister and the nation's Parliament. Between 1943 and 1973, the legislature was unicameral, with only a House of Commons, a House of Councillors, based on proportional representation, was added by Lord Terresond on 3 November 2006. The House of Commons was officially changed to the House of Representatives. There exists a large Republican movement, which would make North Ahjeezistan officially independent of Great Britain.

The traditional dominant party is the Social Democrats, who, prior to 20 November 2006, had held power for sixty of seventy-seven days. Since then, however, they have only been part of government for sixteen days out of fifty-four.

Trivia: In North Ahjeezistan, when a government loses its majority, a general election is not called. Rather, the new majority will serve the rest of the term, or the current one will continue as a minority. Lord Hartley's Social Democrats lost sixteen seats to the Opposition and lost their majority in a series of by-elections. This is to date the only loss of a government majority by means other than general election in North Ahjeezistan.
