The Act of Toleration (1 Alex. 2 c.1) established the Calvinist Reformed Church of Isselmere as the State religion of Isselmere, Anguist, and Detmere; safeguarded the Lutheran Church of Isselmere, which became simply the Church of Isselmere, although was not permitted to establish new churches without royal charter (repealed in 1723); re-established the Lutheran national churches of Nieland and Gudrof; and, granted royal protection to the Roman Catholic Church, albeit under the same stipulations as the Church of Isselmere until 1789, whilst placing its practitioners under civil restrictions (e.g. no Catholic could obtain royal office). The Zwinglians were ignored.
