Current Alliances

This page will provide an overview for Zoogiedom alliance history and allies. Don't complain to me if you are an ally and not listed, post in the discussion and add your name.

Alliance Philosophy

Zoogiedom has, particularly in the past two decades, been careful in choosing its allies, allying itself solely to very trusted nations. Such trust and high favor typically originates from repeated favorable contact with another nation; their political philosophy is rarely - rarely, but not never - an issue.

Beginning at the close of the Ciel Administration and taking off in the current Hanelis Administration, Zoogiedom's alliance-building focal point has shifted from favoring large organisations to preferring individual pacts, allowing for much greater flexibility while not threatening Zoogiedom's national sovereignty. Former President William Ciel had to limited Zoogiedom's role in one or two alliances, but it was current President Michael Hanelis who made the sweeping and controversial change of pulling Zoogiedom out of every alliance save for the Council of Air Powers. Most controversial among these decisions was the decision to resign from the much-esteemed NATO.

Alliance History

It can be said that the Isles of Arden are actually the first 'alliance' that Zoogiedom was a member to, although this is a heavily disputed claim as in the beginning it was known by a different name and there has never existed an official pact binding the states of the Isles together, though there are plans in motion currently to draft and ratify such a pact. Thus the Isles are not officially recognised, although they were the first circle of allies that Zoogiedom had.

The first officially recognised alliance was the now-defunct New Nations Alliance, founded by the nation Samtonia. The alliance had sporadic instances of activity, decreasing greatly as time went on. Finally, the meeting halls abandoned, the alliance (renamed the League of Hanseatic States since its founding) lapsed into nonexistance. Several years ago, Samtonia resurrected again the League of Hanseatic States, but despite initial interest it did not ever reach the state of activity it formerly had and has too, ceased to function.

A good deal of time ago, then-foreign minister William Ciel signed a pact in what is known now as the Anti-Capitalist Fiasco. Zoogiedom was a partaker in a union known as the International Union of Socialist States given its current status as socialist; why this particular treaty was signed is unknown. It turned out that the IUSS was a league of anti-capitalist states committed to trade rules that Zoogiedom utterly rejected, and, in what was the last straw, the IUSS was vehemently 'anti-capitalist.' Zoogiedom, never an active member of the alliance or even making its existence known there, was subsequently brought up before them to answer to charges that it had severely violated every trade law they had in existance, upon which Zoogiedom denied that it had ever been a member, citing the utter and total lack of activity, and for good measure, officially withdrew from the alliance.

It is today regarded as the greatest political gaffe ever made by Zoogiedom.

Most notable among a period of organisation-joining frenzy was the IADF, to which Zoogiedom was coerced to join by staunch ally Five Civilized Nations, and the Organization of Maritime Powers, or OMP. The OMP nearly dissolved after the fall of its ofunder Doujin; almost immediately afterwords though it was rebuilt by its other members. IADF is no longer functioning; Five Civilized Nations motioned to dissolve it in September 2004.

During this time, Zoogiedom itself called an air warfare conference, and as Doujin called one on naval warfare, formed an alliance of aerial powers, termed, perhaps appropriately, the Council of Air Powers. This work was spearheaded by former President William Ciel in conjunction with his defense minister and air force chief of staff.

The final alliance that Zoogiedom joined before President Hanelis took office was NATO, the New Alliance Treaty Organization. This alliance in particular sparked Zoogiedom's interest and was actively persued by President Ciel and his administration since Automagfreek brought up the concept of its resurrection. NATO has in fact been one of the more active alliances in the world altogether, with a highly efficient bureaucratic system in place.

Zoogiedom was accepted among the first of the nations accepted into NATO; it was accepted by a decision of the founders Automagfreek, Sigma Octavus, and Celack, in a period in NATO's history before admissions was relegated to the NATO Congressional Board, to which Zoogiedom was appointed a member.

Because of NATO's sheer effectiveness compared to all other alliances Zoogiedom had ever been in, President Hanelis's decision to resign was met with great controversy and question. Zoogiedom still persues cordial (if not allied) relations with members of NATO and views the alliance as a whole with great favor, although the alliance was seen in contradiction to the philosophy of persuing individual ties.

The Legion of Defense of Nanankaland held almost as much favor in the homeland while it was active; however, it gradually dissolved itself as membership decreased and Nanankaland left. Zoogiedom can be considered resigned, although it never officially did, just as the alliance itself never officially dissolved.

In November 2004, Nanakaland (in RL) returned to the international scene and resurrected the Legion of Defense, although in accordance with national policy Zoogiedom will not seek to rejoin.
