The Kingdom of Nieland is the largest and second most populous autonomous region within the United Kingdom of Isselmere-Nieland, with 31.7 per cent of the total population. Apart from the newly acquired colony of Cerovia, Nieland is the most recent acquisition of the Crown, one which was thankfully achieved through marriage and diplomacy rather than battle and murder, as was so common within the United Kingdom's past.

History

Recorded history notes that what became the Kingdom of Nieland was once part of a much larger Kingdom of the Anguistians ranging from Nieland to southern Wingeria. The Anguistian-speaking population, or at very least, the Anguistian culture, was overwhelmed by successive raids by Vikings, who eventually came to settle in what is now Nieland and Wingerian, as well as the formerly Anglo-Frisian-dominated Gudrof and Wingeria.

The very name of the kingdom tells of the nation's origins. The native Nielander or Nielandic (most present-day academics prefer the latter term) word for the region, Nyland, means new land, whilst the roots of the English word derive from no land, possibly a reference to a dangerous territory. The Anguistian word for the region is most telling: Nígúlad means conquered land, a direct reference to the Norse colonisation of former Anguistian territory.

Once settled, the Nielanders and the resident population were no more warlike than their neighbours, and perhaps much less so than the Anguistians who had so much to regain.

Provinces

The nine provinces of Nieland are Freysland, Kammerskjold, Lieubstand, Malmquist, Nadrinsk, Norgeland, Odensland, Oldmarch, Stamsland.

Felsingburgh

Felsingburgh is the capital of Nieland. Situated on the Solquist Sea coast, the city is quite picturesque in spite of the often terrible North Atlantic weather.
