OOC Information

The city of Metropolis is the world's only superpower in an alternate reality of the Cybergoddess RP. It was inspired by the city of the movie of the same name. Metropolis subsequently reappeared in several other RPs, including Dragons Of Metropolis, The Eight Kingdom and Omega Cycle.

IC Information

Dragons of Metropolis

After a devastating World War propably involving the use of nuclear weapons, most of Earth has been turned into a deserted, irradiated, scorched wasteland. Metropolis draws it's power from his economic and technological domination over the cultures and civilizations in it's reach, which lost most of their achievments during the Great War. It does not seem to be an imperialistic force, yet it did sucessfully launch an invasion against the country of Romera, that lies in an unnamed location somewhere in South America, and occupied the country. Unlike most of it's opponents, Metropolis has preserved the technology and means to produce machines for all purposes through the War, and does so to enhance its military power. Metropolis is finally destroyed by the rampaging SAGAs and the subsequent battle between the Sagas and giant mechas Django and Goddess constructed to protect the city.

Governmental

Metropolis' power is based on technology. The entire power of the corporate city-state lies with a single leader at the top. The whole political system of Metropolis focuses on the figure of the Father, the city's founder, who is seemingly almost omniscient within the city walls (which is managed through an elaborate electronic surveillance system) and portrayed as almost god-like and omnipotent to the Plebs (Lower Class, Workers). Whereas the nation The Shin Ra Corp has become a Corporate Police State, Metropolis at least remains a Father Knows Best State, although the Blue-Collars, the working class, is somewhat worse off in many respects, but is at least given housing, even if oppressed by a minitious 24h plan.

Cultural

The culture one attends has much to do with the class one lives in. While Blue-Collars have a 12h workday and 12h freetime, they have little to do with this freetime: The Worker's city has no cultural facilities and is only an habitat for the workers. Many have sex, watch the governmental TV channels or attend the church, which is rapidly gaining popularity.

Mother Machine

(Main article: Mother Machine)

Simply known as the M-Machine to the workers, this machine's function has long been wondered about. All it seemed to be there for was the consumption of workers who were given shifts to work here. In reality, the Mother Machine is one of the most gruesome aspects of Metropolis - a machine used to produce new Humanites for the Gold Collars, who have become infertile due to genetic modifications. The Mother Machine converts the flesh of workers into a basic organic substance and, after genetic modification, creates Humanites from them. Large amounts of Blue-Collars have to be used to create one Gold-Collar, because the machine has to sort out lots of damaged and mutated tissue.

Heart Machine

The Heart Machine is a huge pumping mechanism in the center of Metropolis.

Metropolis in Cyber-Goddess RP - Alternate History

In an alternate history of the Cybergoddess RP, a POD occurs at some time before or during World War 3: The Empire does not construct bunkers to such an extent as it did in the original RP, thus the number of survivors are limited. A generally lower Tech Level prevents the restoration of Earth's biosphere through terraforming by androids, as it took place in the original RP. Put all this together, hence, come the end of what would have been the bunker era in the original timeline, the corporate city-state of Metropolis emerges as the world's only superpower, instead of the factions of the original RP. Metropolis is situated on the British Isles and holds firm power over a country called --New England--, that was forged from the remains of Great Britain, which was destroyed in the World War. Though the city-state is not bound for territorial expansion, it occupied territories all over the world as ressource supply for economic reasons. Most of these territories, with the exception of --New England-- mentioned above, and Crescento, are isolated colonies placed on locations of fossile fuels or metal ore and surrounded by endless, irradiated wastelands.

Opposed to its design in Eight Kingdom and other appearances, the desing of Metropolis in Cybergoddess is a quite distinct mixture of steampunk, and something I, as author, might just give the name "Benzpunk": Similar to steampunk, but setting off were Steampunk leaves us - at about World War I - and coming down at about the time Modern Tech and, a little later, Cyberpunk takes off. It is thus, a setting that focuses much on the machinery of the early 20th century, including the first rocket engines, massive use of fossile fuels, and so on. Metropolis might be somehow related to the RvneTek corporation, since both are ruled by a ruthless man called President O'Dean.

In this setting, the government uses Revolution En Serie to remain on top of affairs in civil unrest.

Metropolis in RaPharzyon (The Kingdom No. 8)

In this fantasy setting, the british isles are regularly visited by supernatural entities that enter our universe through a rip in spacetime, known as the Cardiff Rift, located at the Cardiff Bay in Wales. The british government sets up a research center at the location, which should find a way to stabilize and harness the abnormality. One day, contact to the research facility is lost. A special unit is dispatched, but never heard of again. Thus, the british government call upon the special organization HELLSING, which was previously used to monitor and intervene with vampire activity in the United Kingdom. The organization manages to battle its way through various extraterrestrial, extratemporal and extradimensional threats to the facility itself, just to find it has been taken over by an hostile transdimensional superpower known as "The Empire". The Empire's desire is to melt all dimensions it can reach into a multidimensional space, the Nexus, it wishes to conquer and rule over. Subsequently, within few days, by the use of telepathy, technology and evolution millions of years ahead of Earth, the Empire's small expedition force conquers the British Isles and plans to conquer all of Earth, expanding the Rift and melting everything into the Nexus. The UN allies with several transdimensional resistance factions, and finally, the alliance manages to halt the advance of the Empire and drive it of Earth by the use of nuclear weapons. However, the territories that it had conquered before never return to their old status, partly because of Imperial influence, partly because of massive nuclear bombadment. One way or the other, the British Isles turn into the Dominion, which is ruled from the mechanized city of Metropolis. Since the retreat of the Empire, the Nexus continuosly spawns more extradimensional beings: faeries, elves, vampires, dwarves, lovecraftian god-monsters, dragons, xenos, time travellers, medieval knights, witches and countless others haunt Britain. The Dominion keeps them at bay, however, the far greater danger is the return of the Empire.
