The English term regions of Baranxtu may either refer to the political division of Baranxtu into regions (see Ailua), or a number of unofficial divisions into colloquial regions, which depend on the current subject on hand.

This article focuses on the latter, as for the former, the Baranxeï term ailua is usually used as a loanword.

Distinction may be simply by cardinal directions, but can also be made according to the geographical, economic or cultural affiliation of a certain area.

Provinces

It is naturally quite common to refer to the provinces when talking about the region in Baranxtu something is taking place in.

Geographical Regions

by direction

Baranxtu can be divided into four regions when going by the four cardinal directions. Apart from the province distinction, this is the most common region differenciation to be found.

Name Provinces Inhabitants (in mio)
Northern Baranxtu Abasina, Ñiria, Ān-Baranxiž, Bari Nazer, Ziaha (north), Naïē,
Āŋ-Neila, Āþ-Neila
728.713
Western Baranxtu Āþ-Dorista, Āŋ-Neila (north and west), Deioprañiva,
Qiru (west of Kintara)
326.468
Southern Baranxtu Qiru (east of Kintara), Āŋ-Neila (southeast), Siraŋe,
Ziaha (south), Eishava, Gileğa, Leumena (west)
387.514
Eastern Baranxtu Halaora, Leumena (east), Izana, Leuva 156.405

This distinction is, of course, not entirely based on the four cardinal direction. For example, Abasina could very easily be counted to Western Baranxtu; however, because it is culturally closer to the rest of Northern Baranxtu, it is usually grouped with this region.

Similarily, at least parts of the two Neilas could be considered the east of Baranxtu; however, they are more closely tied to Northern Baranxtu than the rest of Eastern Baranxtu so they belong to this group.

It becomes apparent that the north of Baranxtu is most densely populated, accounting for almost half of the total population. About a quarter of Baranxtuans live in the south, whereas a fifth lives in the west and only ten percent live in the eastern provinces.
