Rolls of Grand Manses
The Rolls of Grand Manses, commonly known as the The Grand Roll, is an extensive medieval tax assessment completed in 1352 during the reign of Alfred I (r. 1349-1372) as required by the Tenancy Act (1349), following the royal and baronial army's destruction of Peasant's Revolt led by Ulf Toel. The Grand Roll established the right of magnates and burgesses to meet with the king to discuss matters of taxation, thereby becoming one of Parliament's founding documents.
