This page contains information on the current football team of the People’s Democratic Social Republic of Ariddia.

Like several other organisations in Ariddia, it is known as "les Rouge-et-Noirs", in reference to its colours, which are also the national colours.

Note This page refers only to the "new" Ariddian team, not to the teams that played for Ariddia from World Cup 1 to World Cup 11, at which point the PDSRA withdrew from international football. All statistics concern only this "new" team.

Squad

Squad

The following is the squad announced for Ariddia's participation in World Cup 26:

GK: Sandrine Leduc (1)
DEF: Yves al Jahdali (9); E Te (3); Tim Wald (14)
MID: Ue Alt (cpt; 12); Michael Swimmer (21); Ta I (17); André Delherbe (15)

Substitutes:
GK: Ludovic Hue (4); Karim Chem (22)
DEF: Anan Bounthaiyavong (16); James Fields (5); Peter Roberts (13); Jean Kitenge (11); Kolo Kouassi (7)
MID: John Sanjeeb (19); Wol Eosh (6); Cyril Lange (18)
ATT: Clémentine Ramirez (2); Ul U (23)

Formation

Half-way through the qualifying stages of World Cup 25, facing a dismal 0-1-8 record and having scored only one goal in nine matches, Ariddia switched from a balanced style to one of all-out attack – and from a 5-3-2 formation to 3-4-3. This formation will probably be maintained at the start of World Cup 26.

Players

Players to watch out for include Sandrine Leduc (#1), Frédéric Clément (#8), Yves al Jahdali (#9), Ue Alt (#12), Ta I (#17) and E Lel (#20).

Sandrine Leduc

Number: 1
Position: goalkeeper
Gender: female
Age: 28
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

A tall woman, with long blond hair, and green-blue eyes. Though she has earned the right to be considered Ariddia’s top goalkeeper, facing international competition remains an extreme test of her abilities. Though skilled, she lacks experience. Her country has been absent from the international stage too long.

Leduc wears the captain’s armband whenever Alt is not playing.

Clémentine Ramirez

Number: 2
Position: forward (substitute)
Gender: female
Age: 22
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

E Te

Number: 3
Position: defence
Gender: male
Age: 27
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Ludovic Hue

Number: 4
Position: goalkeeper (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 26
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

James Fields

Number: 5
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 23
Current Club: Rêvane City FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Wol Eosh

Number: 6
Position: midfield (substitute)
Gender: female
Age: 18
Current Club: none
First WC appearance: World Cup 26

A young, West Ariddian-born woman, Eosh has only just been granted Ariddian citizenship. She was born in poverty, and emigrated with the help of family members already settled in communist Ariddia. Her brown skin is slightly paler than that of most Wymgani, and her hair is dark brown. West Ariddia is requesting her extradition on a charge of petty theft, and Ariddia’s delay in processing the request has created a little tension between the two countries.

She replaces Uol Lat, who has retired from the international stage although he still plays for Arcadia Sport Vereniging '06 in Uhuh-Topia.

Kolo Kouassi

Number: 7
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 24
Current Club: E'alul FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Frédéric Clément

Number: 8
Position: forward
Gender: male
Age: 26
Current Club: Ceridhton Macks (Audioslavia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Traditionally, Ariddian football has always relied quite heavily on its leading forward pair – the most famous being Raphael and Myrtille Ford, and their predecessor Terry Singh. So all eyes are on Clément and fellow forward players Lel (#20) and Faraj (#10), especially after a slow, disappointing start in World Cup 25.

Clément has dark brown hair, and a youngish look – younger even than his years. He is quite charismatic, with a quick grin and a friendly attitude towards journalists – and people in general.

Yves al Jahdali

Number: 9
Position: defence
Gender: male
Age: 27
Current Club: Ceridhton United (Audioslavia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

al Jahdali, tall, impassive-looking, with fairly long black hair and dark eyes, is said to be the cohesive force behind Ariddia’s defence, and is expected to play most matches. Indeed, he is the only player to have taken part in all eighteen Ariddian games in World Cup 25.In the early years of the Cup, Ariddia’s weakness was often its defence, a weakness later remedied but which may spring up again with a still inexperienced team. al Jahdali is there to limit the risk of that happening.

Ismail Faraj

Number: 10
Position: forward
Gender: male
Age: 22
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Jean Kitenge

Number: 11
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 26
Current Club: Ceridhton United (Audioslavia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Ue Alt

Number: 12
Position: midfield; captain
Gender: male
Age: 28
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

The team’s captain – an Indigenous Ariddian (or Wymgani) with light brown skin, somewhat ruffled-looking brown hair, and serious green eyes – is only the fourth person to captain Ariddia’s football team, after Michel Boulanger, Ranjit Khan and Wn Wahd. Thus it is up to Alt to pick up where his predecessors left off. He is seen as a capable leader, liked and trusted by his team-mates, but, like the rest of the team, he is sorely lacking in experience faced with the best nations in the world. . .

Peter Roberts

Number: 13
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 27
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Tim Wald

Number: 14
Position: defence
Gender: male
Age: 24
Current Club: Ousevale Borough (Krytenia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

André Delherbe

Number: 15
Position: midfield
Gender: male
Age: 23
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Anan Bounthaiyavong

Number: 16
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 25
Current Club: Llil Club Lizards (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Ta I

Number: 17
Position: midfield
Gender: female
Age: 23
Current Club: Rêvane City FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

I, an Indigenous Ariddian, is a versatile player that some are already comparing to Ranjit Khan despite her young age. Although not as talented perhaps as some of her team-mates, she is expected to be a solid, reliable presence on the field, with an ability to adapt to a variety of situations and defend as well as she attacks.

Cyril Lange

Number: 18
Position: midfield (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 20
Current Club: Tojas FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 26

Lange is the great-grandson of the famous Lily Mayantar, but was born in Ariddia of her emigrant grand-daughter. He is reputed to be a skilled player himself, but will start off as a substitute. He has red-tinged blond hair, and very pale brown skin.

John Sanjeeb

Number: 19
Position: midfield (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 23
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

E Lel

Number: 20
Position: forward
Gender: male
Age: 24
Current Club: Dereapolis City (Krytenia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Lel leads the attack along with Clément (#8) and Faraj (#10), in an attempt to live up to the past models set by attacking duos in the history of Ariddian football. Lel has darker skin than most Indigenous Ariddians, dark hair, and is slightly shorter than most of his team-mates.

Michael Swimmer

Number: 21
Position: midfield
Gender: male
Age: 26
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Karim Chem

Number: 22
Position: goalkeeper (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 26
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Ul U

Number: 23
Position: forward (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 22
Current Club: none
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Stadia in Ariddia

Stadia in Ariddia, a relatively underdeveloped country, may well be suitable for casual and domestic games, but with the nation opening up anew to the international football stage, it was felt necessary to redo a few stadia for home matches against foreign teams.

At present, four stadia are used for welcoming foreign national teams: Stade National Rêvane-Sud, Wavecrest City Stadium, Haven-Port-Nouveau Stadium, and Darras Olympic Stadium (in the vicinity of Rêvane). Wavecrest City Stadium was the first to host an international match, shortly before the beginning of World Cup 25: a friendly against Alasdair I Frosticus.

The ulek

The ulek is an ancient Wymgani war chant performed by the team's players at the beginning of every match. For more information, see the article on the ulek.
