In politics and in history, a colony is a territory under the immediate political control of a geographically-distant nation. Many NationStates nations may have Colonies.
Colony is also a popular name prefix.

Note: The above mentioned political entities are semi-autonomus colonies of Kirav, whereas larger Kiravian colonies, such as Scaeve, are independant states, but are still considered part of the Kiravian Empire. The Polar Territories, however, are administered directly from San Xaviero. |
Notes:
- Colonies may be termed in a variety of ways. Ariddia's "colonies" are officially described as a "special province" (Eshyosha, Gnatanamo), a "semi-autonomous overseas territory" (the Ariddian Arctic Islands) or even, in ESAT's case, as a fully sovereign nation.
