This article concerns the First Summer Olympics as it relates to Nationstates. For more general information, please see the Wikipedia article on the subject.
Fifteen cities expressed a wish to host the first ever Summer Games.
These Olympics were preceded by the Tyrellian Ylompic Games, but nonetheless were the first completed Summer Olympiad, as, firstly, the first Ylompics were held independently from the Olympic Council, and secondly there have been previous incomplete attempts to create a Summer Games (such as Kaza '08).
After a vote of nomination, two bids were put forward by the Olympic Upper Council (four were actually nominated, but two - Sonoma City of Bedistan and Timiocato of Pacitalia - had to withdraw) for vote by the entire Olympic Council. They were:
- Ashford, CAS (Ashford Bid Thread)
- International Democratic Union, Region (IDU Bid Thread)
By nine votes to three, the Olympic Council awarded hosting duties to the city of Ashford for the Games.
International medal tally
At the final medal count, after twenty-four days of events, Bedistan topped the medal chart with 75 medals (of which 21 gold). Dorian and Sonya came second (75 medals, of which 19 gold), followed by Andossa Se Mitrin Vega (54 medals, of which 18 gold). In total, 37 nations won medals at these Olympics; South Antrium, in 37th place, took away one silver and one bronze. Hosts Casari finished 6th (51 medals, of which 15 gold).
