The Federated Kingdom of Ness Snorlaxia or Ness Snorlaxia is a large, democratic nation located in south-central Hyrule. It compromises a large landmass connected to the rest of the Hyrulean continent, along with the Tangerine and Grapefruit Islands to the south. Ness Snorlaxia shares borders with Imperial Justice, and Tri-Hylians. It is governed as a combination of a Constitutional Monarchy and federation, with 30 states and 2 external colonies, those being Lycia City in Q102 and Zalaegerszeg in Texas.

The name of Ness Snorlaxia comes from a ancient hero in Ness Snorlaxian mythology, Ness, who defeated the evil Lord Gejaaxsz. Along his journey, he used a creature called Snorlax to help him. The first reference to this name was when the first unified kingdom in Ness Snorlaxia was formed, calling the land "the territories of the great Ness and Snorlaxia." This was eventually shortened to the present name.

The capitals of Ness Snorlaxia are Fourside (administrative and legislative) and Onett (judicial). Fourside is home to the Emperor of Ness Snorlaxia Hurchxuu VI, who has been the head of state since 1985, and Prime Minister Christina Noyarita, elected in 1997. Ness Snorlaxia has a large military, collectively called the Ness Snorlaxian Armed Forces. The nation is not regarded as an economic superpower, but it is known for giving people almost-complete freedoms for its citizens.

The national animal is the Goomba. Although there are a lot of Goombas that are as smart as humans, there are also others that act like pets. Ness Snorlaxia has had many mottos over the years. The national anthem is called Smiles and Tears, the author of which is unknown.

Although Ness Snorlaxia is officially atheistic, it has a freedom of religion. In its early history, the country had no religion, but when Tethe'alla was conquered in the 16th century, Martelism became the nation's first religion. Immigrants have brought other religions such as Roman Catholicism and Islam to the country.

Since April 25, 2005, Ness Snorlaxia has been the delegate of Hyrule.

Geography

Topography

Ness Snorlaxia is located in south-central Hyrule. It consists of a mainland portion, along with the Grapefruit and Tangerine Islands located in the southeast. The terrain consists mostly of costal, lowland terrain along the coast and hilly interior. However, there are really tall mountains known as the Ness Mountains, located along the coastline. Ness Snorlaxia has a nautical border with Tri-Hylians.

The Kara forest, located in the northeast, is the largest forest in the country. It is protected by law, although other forests aren't, which was just recently repealed to help the growth of the economy. The Doko Doko Desert, located in the south, is the only desert in the country. Very small amounts of oil have been found, and so the primary industry there is tourism, as people go over there to see the desert and its tourist traps.

A vast amount of Ness Snorlaxia is urbanized, with many states having over 30 million people. The largest of the cities is Fourside, one of the capitals, which has since grown to include most of its neighbouring area.

Environmental problems

  • A few major cities allow the burning of trash for energy production. Although this does solve power problems, it creates large amounts of pollution.
  • Nuclear power plants that have been built contribute to radioactive contamination of an area. Even though the trash-burning power plants have lowered the amount of power plants needed, they have its own problem (see above).
  • The logging industry is becoming a major industry at the expense of the environment. This is being done because of the need to improve the economy of the country.

History

Main article: History of Ness Snorlaxia

It is unknown where the ancient peoples of Ness Snorlaxia came from, but tribes of humans, Toads, and Goombas migrated and lived in the region.

Under the first King Kaxue I, these tribes were unified into one nation based around present-day Fourside. The first Ness Snorlaxian kingdom lasted from 3200 BC to 67 AD, having many different rulers and dynasties throughout its long history.

Towards the end of the first Kingdom, the nation was starting to become fragmented again, with various military leaders claiming part of the kingdom. Although king Cmouinguzda I attempted reform, it failed and the kingdom was officially dissolved March 24, 67.

The first Confederation was ruled by the ruling Kuliba (Kirby) dynasty, but many provincial leaders did not want a leader who only focused on his home region. The king was overthrown in 154, after a costly civil war.

The head of state was replaced by a person who would be elected every twenty years, but still be crowned as monarchs. The first person to be crowned this way was Kaxue LV Shuen of Ness Snorlaxia, who reigned 154-174. The Electorate governed Ness Snorlaxia until 345, when the powerful Kasobegetsu family and its military managed to take over the country. The Kasobegetsu kings ruled as dictators, until a rebellion led by Arujuxuruanduru V Shuen overthrew the dynasty. The Confederation and Electorate were restored, and governed the country until Posduxu IV turned the nation into a monarchy again.

Under the next three dynasties, the kings ruled benevolently as absolute monarchs, but with freedoms in mind for the average person. Ness Snorlaxian dominance in present day Super Mario Bros was also increasing, leading to the conquering of the area in 1307, starting the Ness Snorlaxian Empire. The kings and queens of the reigning Annuvopolou Dynasty and then Tanobi and Kuliba dynasties continued good governance, lasting until 1666.

Kaxue LXXXII of Ness Snorlaxia marked the turning point of the nation, as he was not interested in the colonies in Super Mario Bros. They were granted independence, but later, under Hurchxuu III, Doruxy VI, and Arujuxuruanduru VI, re-conquered the area in a long war. Kaxue LXXXIII, like the previous three kings, had no intention of giving the colony up.

On April 6, 1795, emperor Hurchxuu V was born and became heir to the throne. However, Kaxue LXXXIII was assassinated by an SMB revolutionary that was luring outside of his house, and Hurchxuu V became king ten seconds after his birth.

Under Hurchxuu V, Ness Snorlaxia entered its golden age, with the education, sciences, and technology advancing. Ness Snorlaxia also granted independence to Super Mario Bros, and the colonies of Lycia City, Zalaegerszeg, and PlayStation Portable (joint Ness Snorlaxian-Super Mario Brosian colony) were founded.

His reign lasted until 1922 - lasting 127 years. After his rule, however, Ness Snorlaxia was not as prosperous as it once was, the economy not being as strong as it once was. However, the nation has continued its liberal polices throughout the century, and is still one of the world's most liberal nations.

Ness Snorlaxia is a constitutional monarchy with the head of state being Hurchxuu VI. The current prime minister is Christina Noyarita, elected in 1997. The government is made up of three branches: exceutive, legislative, and judicial.

In Ness Snorlaxia, the monarch preforms the opening of the parliament and makes the Speech from the Throne every January 20th.

Executive

The exceutive branch is made up of the emperor, the prime minister, and his or her cabinet.

Emperor

Prime Minister's Cabinet

  • Christina Noyarita (1997-present)
    • Laura Kallio - Minister of Foreign Affairs
    • Matti Zheniut - Minister of Domestic Affairs
    • Leonard Sanders - Minister of Defense

Legislative - Parliament

The parliament consists of three components: the soverign, the senate, and house of commons.

Soverign

The Soverign consists of the emperor, who has to appoint members to the senate and make the Speech from the Throne outlining the goals of the country for the year. Other than this, however, the duties of the emperor are ceremonial.

Senate

The Ness Snorlaxian senate is the upper house. In this house, all of the members are appointed by the emperor. Each state and free city is entitled to five senators, meaning that there are currently 160 seats in the senate.

To become a senator, one must be thirty years old and own land in the state or free city he or she represents. Senators hold office for life or until they resign.

In this house, bills that are ratified by the house of commons are sent here to become a law (if it is ratified, of course). However, the senate usually follows the will of the house.

House of Commons

The house of commons is the dominant branch of the parliament. To become a member, all one has to do is be over 14 years old and in a political party. (This, however, prevents independent candidates from running.)

Each member represents an electoral district. There are 30 electoral districts per state (including the smaller ones), which means that there are currently 1,120 seats in parliament. To be elected to the house of commons, one must win the electoral district they represent.

The party that has the most seats is entitled to have the leader become the prime minister of Ness Snorlaxia.

Judicial

The highest branch of Ness Snorlaxia's judicial system is the Supreme Court, which handles all of the national, important cases. The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is Adlai Stephen-Mercury.

There are also smaller branches, listed in the order of power:

  • State Branch, which handles important cases and disputes of the state. Each state appoints its own judge.
  • County / Parish Branch, a smaller version of the State Branch. Each judge is elected by the people.
  • Then, all of the cities and towns get their own Town Court. The townships and villages are represented by the Town Courts.

However, free cities are a little different. Each ward in a free city gets a court, regardless of population.

Law

Laws in Ness Snorlaxia are more lax than other countries, due to wide-ranging personal freedoms. An example of this is that the nation does not have any laws dealing with drugs or homosexuality. There are laws, however, and most of them have to do with the protection of the individual. There is no death penalty, the maximum sentence being life in prison.

Examples of punishments for law-breaking:

  • First Degree murder: minimum 25 years up to life in prison
  • Manslaughter: minimum 20 years
  • Hit and Run: minimum 6 months, although if victim dies, the charge is elevated to manslaughter

  • State Trunk - goes through one state, usually connecting major cities.
  • Regional Trunk - connects parts of a particular region, usually in the countryside.

The largest railroad is the Lilycove and Saimaa Railroad which starts at Lilycove, goes through Gold Coast, Noretta, Ylojivari, Viipuri, Lekkiasema, Porvoo, Saimaa, and ends at the city of Kokiri in Tri-Hylians.

Other major broadcasters include the Tethe'allan Combined Broadcasting Network (TCBN), National Educational Television (NET), and Channel 4 (C4).

Most radio stations are independent or owned by a larger company (although they can only own 25 stations at one time). The majority of those stations play music or sports news.

Education

General information

Education in Ness Snorlaxia is optional, but most people do go to school, either by choice or because their parents tell them to. Most children go to school between ages 5 and 18. There are public and private schools throughout Ness Snorlaxia, but all school types go through routine inspections to judge how well the school is doing and how well the teachers are treating the children, and any school can be closed by the Education Ministry.

The goal of Ness Snorlaxian education is to have general knowledge of the Earth and the Universe as a whole (mainly learned in elementary and middle school), and to be prepared for other jobs in the future (partly learned in high school, and mainly learned in college).

In Ness Snorlaxia, all education is provided for by the state, although the individual person can donate money to a school.

Pre-school and Primary education

There are no pre-schools funded by the government, and they rely on the payment of the parent to enroll them into the school. Pre-School education usually starts at three years old, and they learn all of the basic things they will need to know before entering kindergarten. If they do exceptionally well, then they could move on to first grade.

At five years old, all children are encouraged, but not required, to go to kindergarten. Kindergarten is usually part of the elementary school and will expand on the learning of pre-school.

After graduating Kindergarten, children move on to the mainstream Elementary School. This kind of school has six grades, and will prepare children for various lessons in the main subjects (social studies, science, language [usually English, Finnish, or Japanese], math, reading, and computer education), which are required, and optional subjects (physical education, art, and music) which the student or parent can enroll their kid in. If a student fails two or more of any required subject, they are required to repeat the grade again or go to summer school, so they can move along with the rest of the class.

Most schools of this type have a lunch break and outdoor (or indoor) recess, usually around noon.

Secondary education

When a child graduates from elementary school, usually at 12 years old, they move on to seventh grade, which is in middle school (also called junior high school). The first year is called bridge class, as it is the bridge to the rest of your life. Depending on the grades you get in the main subjects and primary subjects, those subjects will be ones given the most priority when you get to the next grade.

At ninth grade, the subjects that the student excels in determine what class is taken. There are two types of these; the first one is called Society and Economics, which focuses on economics, social studies, study of native culture, and statistical math. The second one is called Sciences and Technology, which focuses on the study of general math, technology, and various sciences.

However, with both groups, they must take language classes, and can take the optional classes (phys ed, art, and music).

Higher education

After graduating middle school, students move on to high school, which enforces the teachings learned in the previous grade, along with teaching of new things. In twelfth grade, the last grade before moving on to college, students choose a job they want and will learn about it.

After graduating high school, students can move on to college or university, or drop out. College prepares the students for their life career, along with teaching advanced forms of subjects learned since elementary school.

When a student has graduated college, most usually get hired to the job that they chose. After graduation, students can still come back to colleges, for a fee, to learn more.
