Competing teams | 18 | Current champions | Pleasantview Ravens | The Bay Football League (BFL) is the top level of domestic football competition in the nation of PopularFreedom. It contains the majority of PopularFreedom's internationally-known clubs. There are now 18 clubs in the BFL, and each plays two matches against each other club, one home and one away. The team with the most points (three for each win and one for each draw) at the end of the season is crowned BFL champion. In the case that two or more clubs should be tied for the most points, a championship final is held in the stadium of the current defending champion. The current defending Bay Football League Champion are the Pleasantview Ravens located in the city of Loyalty Bay, PopularFreedom.
HistoryThe Bay Football League (BFL) was formed in 1899 with four teams, North Beach Sharks, Pleasantview Ravens, Parkcove Rangers, and OceanHeights Archers. In 1907 it expanded when the Central Titans and the Paradise Dolphins joined. In 1913 it expanded to 8 teams with the arrival of the Rockyedge Crushers and the Falconpoint Hawks. Finally, in 1955, it expanded to 12 teams with the addition of the Great Falls Eagles, Willowbrook Bobcats, Downtown Capitalists, and the Stornoway Blizzard. These four teams are all located outside the Loyalty Bay central area. Other football leagues did spring up across the nation of PopularFreedom over the years however the Bay Football League champions are still regarded as the premier power in football in the nation. Occasionally teams from across the nation have gathered to face off against the champion of the Bay Football League however in over 50 matches dating back to 1955 there has been only one defeat of a Bay Football League team by a team from outside the Loyalty Bay Greater Area. In the 2005 season the BFL was tier 1 in a super league which included the Pearson Cliffs Football Association (PCFA), known as tier 2 in the super league. During the next two years the team ranked lowest in the BFL were to play the winner of the PCFA from the previous season. The winner of that game would play in the BFL (tier 1) the following season while the defeated team would play in the PCFA (tier 2) in the season upcoming. In 2007 it was announced that the PCFA would no longer exist and the teams from it would officially merge into the BFL creating one league of 18 teams without tiers or divisions. These teams included the Brunstone Grizzlies, Cliffstone Cougars, Cresthenge Mavericks, Harbour Sharks, Ridgeway Rams, and the Westview Pitbulls. Champions1899 North Beach Sharks |
