The United States of Cookesland is the descendant-state of two much older nations, the Constitutional Monarchy of Cookborough and The Free State of Aurania-Shifre. It was founded on January 1, 2007 by refugees from those two countries after they ceased to exist. Cookesland uses the Piero as its national currency.

Government

Cookesland is a Democratic Republic and its full title is the United States of Cookesland

Cookesland's government is broken into three branches, Exectutive, Legislative, and Judicial. Each manages a diffrent aspect of law.

Executive Branch

The president is the commander-in-chief of the military, can veto bills, and appoints the Cabinet and other officers, who administer and enforce federal laws and policies.

Legislative Branch

The bicameral Congress, made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives makes federal law, declares war, approves treaties, has the power of the purse, and has the rarely used power of impeachment, by which it can remove sitting members of the government.

Judicial Branch

The Supreme Court and lower federal courts, whose judges are appointed by the president with Senate approval, interpret laws and can overturn laws they deem unconstitutional.

The nation is broken into four adminstrative states, each is headed by an elected offical whose title is Governer. The elected official that sever in the government of the nations are also elected by the people.

Since its founding Cookesland has tried to make a name for itself on the worldstage, by joining NSSEI and just recently entered into the 33rd NationStates World Cup.

Geography

Cookesland is not a very large country but has a very varied terrain. In the north there are grassy plains, the central part of the nation consists of temperate woodlands, and the south there are dense rainforests. the eastern region is mostly coastal scrub and in the west, highlands.

The western part of Cookesland is Florigo Moutain Range which runs down the center of The Sunrise Islands. The highest point in the islands is Mt. Terminus, is in Cookesland which is near the border with neighboring Yokaria. The western part of the country(which is made up of the states of Windonesia and Saria Island) is noted for its wonderful skiing and its very beautiful mountain scenery.

Culture & Customs

Cookesland is a very culturally diverse nation, who's culture is not generally known outside of it's borders. Cookesland has been influenced by people from the many countries that have immigrated there from the various parts of the wide world.

A very curious aspect of the nation that separates it from the rest of the English speaking world is the Cookeslandic custom to go by your middle name and simply use your first name as an initial. e.g. John Michael Smith becomes J. Michael Smith. This can be a source of annoyance to outsiders who have feel they have rather "embarrassing" middle names or. Cookeslanders are also fond of good food an cooking (no pun intended) is a popular hobby of many citizens.

When it comes to religion, the nation is quite diverse, Yestarianism is the largest denomination due to the fact it was founded in Cookesland. Most Cookeslanders are quite devout and regularly attend the service of their faith. Universal toleration is an official government policy as well as a separtion of church and state.

On National Holidays businesses, schools, courts, and mail are given the day off in honor of the celebration. January First is the national holiday and is celebrated with fireworks and parades in honor of the founding of Cookesland.

Sports

The National Sport is Baseball and most towns do have a team, but Soccer is quickly becoming quite popular due in part to Cookesland's entry into the World Cup. The Cookeslandic National Team (formerly the Blue Owls) is currently searching for a new name that would help the team name show more of a national identity.

Cookesland is also a member of The Sunrise Profession League, a sports organization devoted to the friendly competition in sports and athletics among it's neighbors.

International Politics

Cookesland for the most part is a conservative state, most notably because of its Anti-Abortion Stance and Anti-Recreational Drug laws and its relaxed gun laws. This is not always the case because of the extensive civil rights the nation possesses including Gay Marriage and Gender recognition stances. Cookesland also has a law against the uses of Uranium in the country. Except for medical purposes Uranium is a Class A non-tradable item in the country. Cookesland opposes nuclear weapons and nuclear reactors.

Cookesland care or its enviroment and is home to many envirometalists. All over the country, especially in Saria Island, there are numerous parks for people to enjoy.

History

In 1532, the Cookboroughan explorer, Valentino Cooke explored many parts of the Sunrise Islands, whereas at the time only a few areas were known. He first sailed across the Sea of Cookborough and landed at what is now Delray Beach. Cooke claimed the land for Cookborough and it's sovereigns, giving the Latin name Chelseia. A settlement was established and soon after the land became a colony, now renamed Cooke's Land in the explorer's honor. However the name Chelseia remains as the Latin name for Cookesland.
