History

Before AO : Revolution And Isolation

In the early years of the Krytenian state, there was the King (or Queen). However, the monarchy was not exactly benevolent, especially when it came to taxation and economic policy. So it was that in 1976 (Krytenian Calendar) that the Populist Movement was started by frustrated entrepeneur and political student Everton Davis. The Movement gained popularity over a number of years, and in 1981 the monarchy was overthrown in a bloodless revolution, with Davis installed as the first Chairman of Krytenia. A period of rapid economic growth followed, and in 1997 Krytenia dropped its isolationist "foreign" policy and opened interactions with its neighbours.

Atlantian Oceania : Balls And Words

Originally, it was simply in the gladiatorial feilds of sport that Krytenia first began making contact with the outside world. After an abortive attempt to replace Liverpool England in the fourteenth NS World Cup|, Krytenia entered World Cup XV. The national side then proceeded to create the Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football (AOCAF), now the most high-profile regional football tournament in the world. Politically, however, Davis preferred to keep his people sheltered from the harsh realities of the world.

It was an unfortunate misunderstanding that led to Krytenia's entry into international politics. During the second AOCAF Cup in Vilita, TV broadcaster John Nwoko made a tongue-in-cheek remark about the jerseys worn by the team from neighbouring Xile. These remarks were not taken in good heart by Xilean leader Adonis Lauir, and a price was put on Nwoko's head. Nwoko was then beaten up by Xilean fans in a bar in Yeaddin, Vilita, before being assassinated while recouperating at home by a Xilean man working in Krytenia.

Davis did not take kindly for this. Nor did Aron Lavinsky, President of Krytenia's northern neighbours, Abattoir. A joint airstrike on the Presidential Palace in the Xilean capital, New Babylonia, followed, though the aftermath saw both Davis and Lavinsky talking of restoring peace. A summit was set up in the former Wapahkoneta, where Lauir shot dead the leaders of both Abattoir and Krytenia.

Exile : FIFA And Fatwah

With Davis dead, Lauir then executed Phase Two of the Xilean plan. Bombing the Olympic Complex in Avid-Diord. In the middle of the Aolympic Games. It was the first time an aggressive act had ever taken place on Krytenian soil, but with the Xilean armed forces far greater, and no oficial leader, the Krytenians were in panic. Samuel Warzycha, interim Chairman, decreed a mass evacuation of the country, and within hours, naval and merchant ships were carrying millions of Krytenian citizens eastward, to the region of FIFA. There, they settled for a short time on a large island south of Rejistania. New cities were built, and Warzycha was appointed Chairman permanently by the Council. Other citizens, meanwhile, took the short trip southward to the former Krytenian protecorate of Nova Mercia. Meanwhile, in the now abandoned corner of Calania, Xilean troops collided with a group of freedom fighters calling themselves the "Antixilian Fatwah", or AXF. Led by the son of Everton Davis, Kori, the AXF spread bloodshed and confusion in the ruined Krytenian cities. Xilean troops eventually decided to return home, finding no reason to invade and inhabit this now neutral territory.

The Reclamation : Protest and Pacts

A Starblaydia-led peacekeeping effort helped reduce the Fatwah's presence in southwest Calania. Within four years of their migration, the Krytenian leader an peoples innovatively moved the entire new nation, piece by piece, back onto the more southerly and westerly areas of old Krytenia, moving buildings and infrastructure in a way resembling both flat-pack furniture and a giant game of Tetris. The entire operation took eighteen months, however there soon appeared a snag. The Atlantian Oceania Council granted an area of land smaller than that actually populated by the Krytenian people. A swathe of towns and cities to the north of the country, known as the "Outer Cities", were left effectively stateless, and despite fervent politicking from the Krytenian authorities, the AO Council made sur these pleas fell on deaf ears. It was only when the Outer Cities were granted to Bedistan that things started moving apace. A Krytenian delegation travelled to Bedistan, and after barely fifteen minutes of negotiations, had secured the Outer Cities for Krytenia. Eighteen months later, the area formally became the province of the Northern Lands. Meanwhile to the south, the collapsing of Nova Mercia was handed over to Krytenia by a panicked Mercian government.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Jhanna, Starblaydia, four nations were forming an alliance known as the Strategic Alliance of Autocratic States(SAAS). Traditional Krytenian allies Abattoir and Starblaydia, and traditional Krytenian enemies Xile and Nova Roma, had decided to pool their resources against the potentially dangerous Federation of Like-Minded States(FLMS). But the then-neutral Krytenians had other scores to settle. Krytenian intelligence agents commandeered the private jet of Xilean President, Adonis Lauir. Lauir boarded the jet and took off, not even realising the plane had been hijacked until mere minutes before landing in Krytenia. Lauir was arrested on exiting the plane, and held in Krytenia to await trial. Mere days later, and Chairman Warzycha was in Lavingrad, Abattoir, having been invited to the formal founding of SAAS. There, he agreed a peace with interin Xilean leader Karl Tiresen, and along with the leaders of the original four nations and Nojika, signed the Lavingrad Pact. A loophole in the law saw Lauir released a week after the signing - though conspiracy theorists believe this is a cover-up and that Lauir was sprung by Xilean Intelligence.

And so, to the present day. Xile and Krytenia are positively cordial, the Starblaydis (with the exception of Michalis Mitrofanis) are routinely heckled, and the Krytenian economy is thriving. Even the Krytenian Air Force got some target practice in Latao. It is a good time to be a Krytenian citizen. The only black spot came on November 16, 2021, when Chairman Samuel Warzycha tragically died in a household accident. His replacement, Andrew Hessenthaler, is doing admirably well, and recently hosted the third meeting of the SAAS in Everton City.
