General Info

Liverpool England is in the region of The Heartland, and has always been bar a few times when regional arguments got in the way. The nation is most reputed for its' sporting achievements, having won two major sporting titles, and hosting four others, excluding minor competitions inside The Heartland.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as Healthcare and Public Transport receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry, ranking 5th in The Heartland and 631st in the world at last count.

The nation is also a signatory of the Trade Network Association founded by The Dominion of Dread Lady Nathicana which includes signatories, to name a few, Scolopendra, Iuthia and Iraqstan, and its major trading partners within The Heartland are Aerigia, Grays Harbor, Ineptia and the members of the inactive alliance of the Partnership for Peace and Prosperity. The nation also holds the title of Minister of Recruitment to The Heartland.

Liverpool England as a former Empire

Liverpool England used to be an empire, with territories including Oddslavo (formerly in The Heartland, now in Texas), and a couple more in FIFA and The North Pacific. Chacor in Atlantian Oceania was also under Liverpool England control, being jointly-rled by the now-seperate Oddslavo. Lox Land Island was also part of the empire, but as it was just east of the nation, it never was recognised as an Imperial Territory by the public. The nation is now no longer an Empire, however, Lox Land Island still has not gained full independence from the government in the City Centre, it is, however, a self-governing territory with capital at Schimpol. It is ruled by the Prime Minister of Liverpool England, Marc Newells, who appoints a governor to the territory. The current governor is Mike Yinan. It achieved self-governance when the empire broke up, but its proximity to the mainland made sure it could never official break up, for fear of military intervention.

National Anthem

Liverpool England has no official national anthem, contrary to popular belief. At sporting events, You'll Never Walk Alone is used as the anthem of the nation.

Lox Land Island recognises You'll Never Walk Alone as its territorial anthem, and as such it is played prior to all sporting events involving the Island, even down to club level.

During World Cup 22, a second unofficial anthem, which has no lyrics but only a tune, was played before the anthems of the nations involved in that particular match, unless it involved Liverpool England. In that case, and for all matches played in Schimpol and Watakisikis, You'll Never Walk Alone was played.

Lyrics

You'll Never Walk Alone
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm, there's a golden sky
And the sweet, silver song of a lark
Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And You'll Never Walk Alone
You'll Never Walk Alone

Government

Liverpool England used to be run by the President, Dave Goh, who refused to hold major elections, only allowing constituency elections. When the nation became the Greater Imperial Kingdom, Goh took the throne, but later stepped down in favour of elections, where he secured a narrow victory over Konishiwa Itshumitzu by under 1% of the vote.

Present Day

Presently, Goh and Itshumitzu hold President and Vice President positions, although they leave the running of the country to Premier Marc Newells, who served as Sport Minister, later Defence Minister, under Goh.

National elections still rarely happen, but more local elections take place. Parties in Liverpool England include the Greener Society Coalition, made up of four small parties, which holds 140 of Parliament's 450 seats, the National Leftist Federation, which has 100, the ruling Party; the National Centrist Board, with 125 seats, and the small Right-leaning party the Rightist Forward Movement has the remaining 35.

While elections do not take place, Confidence Voting decides the Prime Minister. Every four years, effectively a term, the incumbent needing a 67% vote of approval from the Parliament - that's 67% of 450 seats, or 300 Parliamentary YES votes, to stay on. If he gets a no, he will have to either disband his Cabinet, offer his resignation and hopes the President re-appoints him with a new Cabinet, or he may decide to step down totally, in which case his appointed successor takes over as soon as he receives a 67% YES vote from Parliament. If his successor receives a NO vote, which hasn't ever happened, a national referendum is called to see if elections should be held, or whether the Parliament should appoint a new Prime Minister.

Politics, Regional and Global

Regional

The Liverpool England government are active within The Heartland, and were thrice elected to the Heartland High Council before elections were scrapped within the region. Liverpool England is also a founding member of the Partnership for Peace and Prosperity, alongside Grays Harbor, Aerigia and Clearwater. The Partnership contained over 15 members, but this number has since decreased. The Liverpool England Representative to The Heartland's Senate is 34-year-old Gary Lucreski.

Global

The government has gone into isolation from global politics, but still maintain certain ties with other nations. Occasionally, the Government will choose to step into conflict, but it rarely happens.
