The Spectrum
Forum: The Spectrum Forums
Population: 24 nations
Delegate: Oldham Road
Founder: I Know Better Than You
Info: NSEconomy RC XML

The Spectrum was founded shortly after 17:00 on May 12th 2006. Its original purpose was to showcase the difference, or spectrum, between members I Know Better Than You and Calumnius. However, its purpose has since expanded. The Spectrum initially experienced fast growth before slowing down for a period of time. Recently however, growth has increased, although now it is showing signs of slowing down once again. The Spectrum's politics are generally anarchistic although a defacto democracy exists surrounding the UN delegate. There are few laws - although some members are trying to change that. The Spectrum has its own regional anthem, entitled 'Panic in The Spectrum', a play on the song 'Panic' by The Smiths, arranged and put forward by Sabrateur.

The Spectrum UN Delegacy

Seven people have held the office of Spectrum UN delegate with White-Rose holding the office three times. Until recently the delegate position was reasonably secure, Oldham Road served more than 100 days before resigning. Lately however the delegate position has been somewhat more threatened. There have been three different delegates since Oldham Road resigned and none of these delegates have held a large endorsement margin. The first Spectrum delegate was Enthalpy Change whose reasonably long tenure led the Spectrum out of its infancy. White-Rose succeeded Enthalpy Change and for a long time held sway over the delegate position where his authority as delegate was never questioned. Calumnius briefly became delegate for one day before power returned to White-Rose - as delegate his impact on The Spectrum was negligible, other than perhaps reminding White-Rose that his continued occupation of the delegacy was by no means assured. This was later proved when UN power-plays lead to Buttery Boonswoggles replacing White-Rose as Delegate. After sixteen days however, Oldham Road succeeded Buttery Boonswoggles and brought a new style of politics to The Spectrum. As delegate, he oversaw several crises and the introduction of new laws. His often conflictive views to those of the founder served to show the rightful dominance of the Delegate over the founder. Oldham Road resigned as delegate leaving the delegacy to Mushy Pea. Mushy Pea never had strong endorsement support compared to Oldham Road and it was seemingly inevitable that her reign as delegate would end relatively quickly. This was the case when Daveanoyl Chloride shifted the power into his favour and took the helm for a short period of time before being replaced by White-Rose who began his third term as delegate. After Don Flanioso's brief stint as Delegate, the title is now firmly under the control of Oldham Road once again after a short absence.

Spectrum Security Council

The Spectrum Security Council (or SSC) is a council established to maintain security in the region. Its current members are:

The Council is chaired by I Know Better Than You, Spectrum founder. The chair has no vote in proceedings.

Alliances

The Good Guys

The Good Guys is an alliance formed in The Spectrum created for the purpose of the invasion of Ediroth and played an important role in dividing the lands of THA FORST. The Good Guys had a designated meeting tower on the The Sparkly Island of Bunnies. Construction began on 13th March, 2007.

The Good Guys: The Movie was released in May 2007, to critical acclaim. Two definite sequels are being produced, while a third is being considered.

The Good Guys were disbanded on the 8th of June 2007.

The Great Guys

The Great Guys is an alliance formed in the Spectrum. Their role has not been fully decided. They have inheirited everything the Good Guys possessed, including the meeting tower on the Sparkly Island.

S.A.T.O

S.A.T.O, Spectral Alliance Treaty Organisation, is an alliance formed to promote free trade within the Spectrum and to create a collective defence policy, where if one SATO nation is attacked, all SATO nations must defend the attacked nation. It was born into immediate controversy with several members of The Good Guys alliance seemingly upset by what they percieved as "Good Guy bashing".

Laws

Spectrum Security Act 2006

Sometimes also known as the Spectrum Privacy Act. The act was authored by many people in the Spectrum's early years but was recodified by Calumnius. The act requires nations to declare their identity to the Spectrum founder or delegate to ensure Spectrum security. It also allows nation to retain a degree of anonymity. This second aspect of the act has caused much controversy especially amongst third generation Spectrites. Founder and delegate disagreements have also occured when one knows an identity and the other does not. This may mean a new amendment to allow for both the delegate and founder to know is required.

Representative Democracy Act 2007

Written by Calumnius, this act aims to pave the way for more democracy within The Spectrum. Originally the act never gained majority and could not be passed. The act was duly revised, and it is now in place, stating that nations must name another nation who will vote for them if they are unavailable during a vote to pass a resolution. This information is to be kept in a list. A website has been established to record representative selections.

Single Nation Act 2007

Written by Sabrateur, this act states that each player with a nation in The Spectrum must only have one nation within The Spectrum. Any that have multiple will be forced to either delete them or remove them from The Spectrum. This act does not affect a nation player's right to anonymity.

Games/ Events

The Spectrum runs several inter-regional games and competitions from time to time, the most prominent of these being Werewolf/Mafia games.

Werewolf/Mafia

There have been several games of Werewolf played within The Spectrum, the first being in September 2006.

Games planned for the future:

Spectrum Football

In 2006, eight nations took part in The Spectrum Cup in White-Rose, a competition between the region's best football teams. The final was won by Dhatsun with Nintenduu 64 taking second place.

In May 2007, the 2nd Spectrum Cup began, hosted in Dhatsun, with 20 teams competing for the cup. The final was won by Nintenduu 64 with Oldham Road taking second place and Petersvillia taking third place.

Spectrum Football is chaired over by the Spectrum Football Association.

Spectrovision Song Contest

The first Spectrovision Song Contest was hosted on 21st May 2007 in Parodia, White-Rose. It was won by Oldham Road.

Spectrum Birthday Summit

On 12th May, 2007, many leaders of nations within The Spectrum gathered to celebrate the region's 1st birthday, at the Tai Wu restaurant (and, unofficially, the Town Hall Tavern) in Manchester, England. Nations which did not send a representative were: Buttery Boonswoggles, Wildcatiumum, Chekgakistonia, Mushy Pea and Ti Amero. Sarhiro was the first nation to join after the summit, and thus represents the first nation to join The Spectrum in its second annum. The summit passed without much controversy, aside from a minor faux pas commited by the representative of Petersvillia concerning a ball-shaped mushroom.
