The "PEEL" region is located in the Ilkuknuis Continent - considered the middle of the three Great Continents of the planet F'rama III (its official designation as it is the third planet from the star F'Rama). The region itself is named for the Planetary Economic and Environment League; set up hundreds of years ago, it technically dominates all aspects of life in the region. Today it is synonymous with The DROOP and regulates and attempts to keep the peace amongst its members. Its power and influence has transformed the region bearing its name to become the most economically powerful, and most populated area on the planet. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, Ilkuknuis has seen the large majority of the planet's wars in the last few centuries. Various members of PEEL have taken upon themselves to preserve the peace, like for instance the MuDeAl, but that alliance has recently increasingly been shown to be ineffective and apathetic, with its credibility having been heavily damaged by a series of collapses and secessions, and strife and conflict seems to be happening increasingly frequently. For the most part a multi-polar region, for a long period of time events were centred in the southern-most New Europe, but this has changed in recent times and events are now scattered around the region with the recent tendency of New Europe to be more concerned with internal problems.

To the west of PEEL, beyond the vast Shrimpkin Ocean lies the Great Western Continent, Gehenna. It is the largest of all the Great Continents, and is considered the birthplace of the majority of the planet's culture, civilisation, religion and indeed people. The east of Gehenna, in the region now known as the Urallian Homelands, once was dominated by the Urallian Empire - the largest the world has ever known. Their influence spread across much of the world, in particular through the centre of Ilkuknuis, where they stamped their legacy forever. Today, a secretive, yet large and brutal society seeks to rebuild the ancient Urallian Empire - they are known as the Neo-Urallians. The presence of these terrorist forces makes civilian passage to and from Gehenna both extremely dangerous and questionably worthwhile. Military passage would be nearly impossible - except for the Urallians themselves, who have often crossed the great void and repeatedly terrorise PEEL - leaving a dark shadow over the people there at all times.

In the east, past the Decapodian Ocean there is the continent of Asgard, which in ancient times held a direct land link to Ilkuknuis, but that is now covered by near-impassable frozen glaciers. Asgard is much larger than Ilkuknuis but far less populated. It is believed that an ancient civilisation - the Athrians - existed in Asgard and gave the world a huge amount of advanced technologies, but according to legend these technologies proved the Athrians' downfall as a super weapon apparently developed in the fight against the Urallians backfired and destroyed much of their homeland. This catastrophic event and its consequences is probably a large factor in Asgard being so under-populated and under-developed and why very few travel there.

The year is 2055, and the world, despite continuous war in the Urallian Homelands, is currently in a state of relative peace after the end of the Dominion Wars in PEEL two years ago.

Introduction

The Planetary Economic and Environment League was originally founded by a group of 12 nations seeking an end to the strife of the rest of the world. The League is set on the central continent of the planet F'rama III, a planet with no resemblance whatsoever to a blue and green planet in the Milky Way galaxy. It is also mostly harmless.

The region is maintained by the world organization DROOP, a compulsory organization dedicated to world peace, etc etc. The region is marred by wars and conflicts quite frequently, despite the pleas of the DROOP. Originally founded under largely Capitalist ideals (Nurdbotia being a key exception), in recent times PEEL has bred several new Socialist and Communist nations, and the rivalry between the two systems is often the source of conflict.

The O-12, the original founders of PEEL and the creators of international co-operation, have mostly ceased to exist, but their legacy is continued by the enduring presence of several of the original nations as well as others, whom, attracted by the prosperity and goodwill between neighbours of the PEEL region, sought to preserve the spirit of friendship and cooperation which the O-12 had held so dear.

However, dark times loom ahead for the Region of PEEL.....

Major Alliances and Organizations

• The DROOP - The Administrative Office of the DROOP is the governing body of the entire region, and all nations, young and old, are a part of it's never-ending bureaucracy cycle. Technically not a nation, the DROOP is registered as a nation because of a great argument years ago. The original nations of PEEL couldn't decide a home-city for the DROOP on their own, as they were too busy squabbling. The frustrated administrators decided to found the DROOP as their own nation, which just so happened to be the first ever international argument solved by the DROOP.

• MuDeAl - Mutual Defence Alliance that at its height consisted of 9 of the oldest and most powerful nations in PEEL. Regarded as the "elite" alliance, historically pooling great Armies to act as peace keepers in collapsed countries and as a combined front against terrorism, the current members are Nixorbania, Teral, Dyslexia, Nurdbotia, Spifflandia and West-Europa. Other nations that are no longer members of MuDeAl are the collapsed nations of Nogo-Nogo and Avatarium, plus Zedoljev and New Cyberia, the former withdrawing in 2047 (STS) and the latter some time later.

• COMECON - The largest alliance of Communist and Socialist nations in the region. Founded by communist Nurdbotia and socialist Zedoljev and established on the 7th April 2045. Designed for members to come to military and economic aid of one another in the event of a catastrophe, COMECON was heavily involved in the Phillips Head Crisis, and the surrounding controversy and friction between COMECON and MuDeAl were the prime reasons for the exit of Zedoljev from both organizations. Former administrators include Zedoljev and Ivorila. The Free Trade Organization and the POECD have been regarded by the more extreme members of COMECON to be deliberate antagonism by capitalist states to counter the strength of COMECON. Currently the most active organization in the region.

• Free Trade Organization - The FTO was founded on June 5, 2051 by the leaders of MDKCorp. The FTO is an economic agreement to remove barriers, tariffs and quotas on trade with member nations, to promote the international trade industry. Mutual defence against piracy and other illegal interference is an important clause, but the FTO is not a military treaty. Boasting large membership, the FTO is a force to be reckoned with.

• The Federation of Island States Treaty - An informal alliance between several island nations located in south western PEEL.

• Greater Cyberian Union - The GCU is the governing body of the various states and territories belonging to the state of New Cyberia. The Primarium of the GCU is located in Reeding, New Cyberia, and a representative of each state of the GCU holds position there. The Primarium is the highest government body in the GCU, and each state gets an equal say in foreign affairs. The GCU is a well maintained organisation, and is notably professional on the international scene.

• POECD - The PEELian Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, also known as the POECD, is a recent treaty devised by Teral and Spifflandia. The goals are to face economic, social, environmental and governance challenges in the international community, as well as to exploit any opportunities. The member base of the POECD is rather small, as strict regulations are in place that many nations aren't eligible for.

• Unity of Tchazanovite Nations - An insular treaty of trade and defence between the long-standing Tschazanovite nations, now officially known as The Union of Soviet Tschazanovite Republics. The Union is dominated by Greater Zedoljev, and is one of the older treaties still in effect.

• Accord of Unicratic Ievurlazkant States - A multi-lateral mutual defence and trade treaty between heavily Ievurlazkant states, centralised and dominated by Ivorila. Set up in STS 2051, the treaty favours enhanced co-operation between members and the international community at large, as well as minor protectionism within the treaty from outsiders.

• The Holy Dominion - An organization of theocratic nations founded by Anubinia. Defeated by Coalition forces in the Dominion Wars and was disbanded in STS 2053.

• The Coalition - A temporary treaty founded to counter the Holy Dominion and co-ordinate military movements. Disbanded in STS 2053.

• The PAFEA - An alliance of like-minded nations dedicated to improving education standards and funding.

• The Cosmonautical Cooperation of the Continents of PEEL (CCCP) - A recently proposed and controversial military and scientific alliance proposed to research and develop ways of countering the threat of Neo-Urallian space domination. It consists of many nations involved from both sides of the Dominion Wars.

PEEL Colonial Territories

When the nations of the PEEL region began to outgrow their borders, several countries took it upon themselves to find new ways to house their population. The People's Republic of Zedoljev, a small country with a large population, sent out a few teams of explorers to chart claims of nearby landmasses with little or no indigenous inhabitants. What they found were plentiful lands and a chance to make a fresh start.
