The Constitutional Republic of Willink is a massive nation and continent located in Southeastern Haven. Willink shares a sea border with the nation of Hamptonshire. A highly industrialized and modern liberal democracy, Willink is a major player in both regional and international politics.
Willink consists of eighty-two provinces, governed by a small, highly efficient government. Willink is an economic superpower, a world-leading producer of refined goods, and one of Haven's most progressive liberal democracies.
The Constitutional Republic of Willink is a member of several organizations, such as the UNA, Frye Sea pact, several economic groups through Haven, is the founder of the Organization for International Economic Development, and until recently, was a member of the Sovereign League and the Alliance For the Preservation of Civilization.

History
Prehistory
Archaeological evidence suggests that the area currently comprising Willink was first settled in 9000 BC by tribes of Proto-Indo-Europeans, which sought to maintain their direct hold on the surrounding territories, while often confronting wandering nomadic tribes, who made a habit of attacking Procto-Indo-European settlements. Minoans dominated southern Willink up until 500 AD, at which time the area became a territory of the the Byzantine Empire after a successful military campaign by the latter removed Minoan presence.
During this period Slavic peoples began to populate northern Willink, in which the term Willink was first used to describe the "Belozersk-Willinkiav", an early Slavic state that existed until the 12th century, prospering from its trade with surrounding territories and states. New trade routes spreading to the west (Into modern day Ato-Sara) caused the state to decline and later collapse after widespread famine and breakdown of social and political order.
In the 12th century constant battles between the Slavs and Byzantine Empire resulted in widespread prosecution and killing of Slavs native to the southern tier,whom then took part in a large migration to northern Willink, resulting in the forming of several new Slavic states, all existing for on and off for three hundred years based around the isolated areas rivers.
Byzantine Rule and the Renaissance
After nearly 600 years the Byzantine Empire finally gained control of nearly all of what is modern day Willink, and beginning in the early 1200's Christianity was introduced by Byzantine missionaries. This was short lived, however, following the collapse of the empire just two years later. Lacking a central government, the southerntier proclaimed itself part of Despotate of Epirus, a venture which proved to work even less in the Despotates favor, and by 1356 the territory was in a state of total collapse following the abandonment of the territory by the said successor state.
Over the next hundred years, the territory changed possession often, at times being controlled by The Kingdom of Naples, The Holy Roman Empire, and the Kingdom of Aragon, before becoming a possession of Habsburg Spain in the mid 1500's. The rule of the Habsburg's were short-lasted as well, as soon thereafter the Spanish rule began to falter.
The Habsburg-Russo War
Following the decline, and later collapse of the Habsburg's as a ruling family, and shortly after the end of the War of the Spanish Succession, the majority of southern Willink became a possesion of the Holy Roman Empire yet again, this time under the jurisdiction of Charles VI. His rule over the territory was limited however, as the massive distance separating the two nations combined with rising resentments of rule by aristocrats led to widespread discontent.
In 1724 Peter I of Russia Declared war on the Holy Roman Empire in an attempt to seize Willink, in a successful campaign leading to the defeat of mercenary armies of Willinkian born soldiers deployed by the Romans. By 1730 Imperial Russia had set about modernizing Willink, with the building of new palaces, churches, and governmental institutions under the supervision of Catherine I.
The next 100 years were marked by a westernization of most of Northern Willink, an increase in the wealth of port's and cities alongside such areas, and widespread resentment of Russian rule. In 1850, while under the rule of Nicholas I, the territory rebelled. Lacking the sufficient capabilities to prevent a break-off state, Russia recognized Willink's independence on February 16th, 1850.
Government
Willink is a Constitutional Republic. With the current national reforms caused by the rise to power by the ACT Willink party in recent elections, the previous complex system of laws and ordinances hindering the populace and economic growth has been removed and replaced with a far more efficient system based on libertarian ideals; increased protection of civil liberties, elimination of censorship practiced by the previous political leaders, and removal of laws retaining to victitmless crimes in relation to business being among the new political freedoms available.
Willink has a semi-presidential system, in which both the Prime Minister and Deputy Minister share elected duties. The Prime minister is responsible for foreign policy , while the Deputy Minister is tasked with leading the executive council, which operates much akin to the cabinet of other nation's executive branches. The responsibility of forming the council falls on the Prime minister, whom must appoint politicians out of the leading political entities in the previous election.
The 150 member Parliament (Greek-Η Βουλή θα μελανώσει, literally the House of Willink) serves as the nations supreme legal legislation. The parliament has the power to alter the constitution, although this power has rarely been exercised. Besides this power, the parliament also retains the ability to override council vetoes and force the resignation of executive leaders.
