Background - A Millennium of Expansion and War
America - The Decline (1991-1999-)
After the official end of the Cold War with the Soviet Union in August of 1991, and the turn of the Soviet Union into a democracy the United States had only one other realistic threat left in the world, which was the People's Republic of China. The United States sought to maintain its superpower status by intervening in a series of international conflicts acting on behalf of the United Nations to garner support for their military ventures.
During this time several states within the United States began voicing their own political agendas and eventually splitting off to form their own nation-states independent from the United States. The two nationstates that seperated from the United States during the 1990's were the Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey (in 1992) and the Californian Federation (in 1999) respectively.

Transnational Issues
International Disputes: California continues to seek a mutually acceptable solution with the Menelmacari and the Americans on the sovereignty dispute over the seven states of East Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, and Iowa that lie between the Californian border and the Mississippi-St. Croix Rivers which have been claimed as California's legitimate eastern boundary with the Federated Menelmacari States of America. So far nothing has been worked out and the dispute has continued since California's independence on November 19, 1999.
