Introduction
The "PEEL" region is an officially recognised political area located in the Ilkuknuis Continent - considered the middle of the three Great Continents of the planet F'rama III (its official designation as it is the third planet from the star F'Rama). In recent years following great expansion, many consider the PEEL region and the Continent of Ilkuknuis to be synonymous. It is true that the PEEL region covers virtually all territory of Ilkuknuis, but there are some distinct differences. First of all, PEEL is a nickname of a trans-national agreement that initially began around the New European subcontinent and was classed a community. Now it dominates the continent and is classed a region of the world all by itself. It is also now the most populated area of the planet – despite being on what is geographically the smallest continent.
The region is maintained by a further trans-national organization, DROOP, a compulsory organization dedicated to world peace, etc etc. The region is marred by wars and conflicts quite frequently, despite the pleas of the DROOP. Originally founded under largely Capitalist ideals (Nurdbotia being a key exception), in recent times PEEL has bred several new Socialist and Communist nations, and the rivalry between the two systems is often the source of conflict.
The O-12, the original founders of PEEL and the creators of international co-operation, have mostly ceased to exist, but their legacy is continued by the enduring presence of several of the original nations as well as others, whom, attracted by the prosperity and goodwill between neighbours of the PEEL region, sought to preserve the spirit of friendship and cooperation which the O-12 had held so dear.
Etymology
The name “PEEL” comes from the initials of the Planetary Economic and Environment League – the organisation that now dominates the entire continent. By 1981 (STS) the area once just referred to as Ilkuknuis had become better known as the Region of the Planetary Economic and Environment League and this was often abbreviated to the Region of PEEL. “PEEL” has since been used as a single term in further abbreviations – for example, the Democratic Order of the Region of PEEL (The DROOP).
History
see main article: History of PEEL
The area now known as PEEL is famous for immigration, both aggressive and economical, not to mention highly volatile political affairs. Many governments rise and fall over a short period of time with scarcely a year going by without one government or another either collapsing or starting all over anew. Unsurprisingly, PEEL is also plagued by a great deal many wars. However, ironically, the region remains perhaps the most cooperative and progressive on the planet.
Much of the population is thought to have migrated to area from the Great Western Continent, Gehenna, however, different peoples and species migrated at different points, and their arrival in the region has often lead to historical notoriety. What is known that Terrans, the dominant species on the planet, have existed in the region for nearly 30,000 years, and that notable Terran civilisations have existed for nearly 15,000 years. The Great Climatic Change hit the region hard like it did the rest of the planet, wiping out much of the civilisations to the north of the continent. This left the bulk of the civilisations to the south of the region, and as only natural, this area is where the bulk of the region’s most significant history took place.
The PEEL region pioneered much of the world’s modern technology, and is considered the spiritual home of the Reformed Church of the Goddess, the largest religious denomination in the world. The region has also seen a large numbers of Empires come and go, among which the Urallians had a profound effect on the centre of the region. Other large and influential empires included that of TheMadCapper and Nurdbotia, but perhaps only the Slimmoan Empire is the only true Empire left in the region – it is mostly placid in foreign policy however has gone through periods of turmoil and instability in recent years – the fluctuating state of the Empire is one of grave concern for its neighbours.
Today, the Region is dominated not by Empires but by Alliances – grand nations joined together either by economic or political brotherhood, or a sense of duty. Perhaps the two most famous of the recent alliances are COMECON and MuDeAl, respectively a bond of friendship between Socialist nations, and a military alliance designed to protect the region from terrorism and instability. Unfortunately attitudes have changed and it increasingly appears that the very existence of COMECON is seen as a threat by the more capitalistic of countries – despite decades of generally good terms between the two. Further more, as MuDeAl seems to wane, other alliances form up in their place mostly out of necessity. Where as the MuDeAl was an alliance of mutual relationship, several current alliances are specifically confrontational towards other alliances. An excellent example is the Union of Soviet Tschazanovite Republics and the former Greater Cyberian Union. The entire Dominion Wars is another example of two alliances fighting against each other. While the region has been quick to try and draw on friendships in the four years since that war – the dark undertones of rivalry are still very strong – in particular following events in Teral and Bamonia which have not done anything to improve relationships between the “red” and “blue” nations of the region.

More recently, another contentious point is the terrible Necrobia plague which is currently devastating much of the Western Spur – the area that saw the bulk of the fighting during the Dominion Wars. Anubinia, the nation suffering most from the outbreak, has declared war on Athiaca, who it is claimed is behind the virus – deliberately releasing it into the waters of the Nihl River as an attack against Anubinia itself.
Geography and extent
Main article:Ilkuknuis Continent
Geographically speaking, PEEL is on the same landmass as Asgard, various different scientific discoveries have proven that there is an “arm” of solid rock that links between Asgard and Ilkuknuis. However, today, it’s covered in the extremely large Farnhova Ice sheet and is considered inhospitably cold with average temperatures struggling to best -60°C. So generally it is considered that the region of PEEL halts at the south-western fringes of the ice sheet, though there have been various attempts to set up large colonies, only those that remained close to the boundary have remained. Those that reached out further often returned not soon after or disappeared without trace. Another major barrier for expansion into the area is a native sentient species known as The Yeti. Warlike and very territorial, the entire glacier is dotted with hundreds of tribes and clans.
The region incorporates all of the remainder of the Ilkuknuis continent and various outlying island groups. Its western boundaries are clearly marked out by the Shrimpkin Ocean
Physical Features
In terms of shape, the region is a collection of connected peninsular, with a scattering of islands of varying sizes – mostly off the southern coasts. This includes several “Barriers” or “Chains”; perhaps the two most famous are the Frei Barrier and the larger Great Barrier – also called the Outlying Territories. The main landmass is often called New America – named after a region in Gehenna. Besides New America is the New Asian subcontinent that runs south below the Equator line to where many call the “heart” of the region. The southern tip of New Asia is separated from the smaller continent of New Europe by the Morbo Strait – it is widely thought that New Europe was once connected to New Asia, but rising water levels separated it – forming the Morbo Strait and the various islands found within.
The overall climate is mostly wet and cool, but areas around the equator have very pleasant summers – only to have very cold winters, especially around the Morbo Strait. Beyond that, various large forests litter the landscape, mostly found on New Europe, northern New Asia, eastern New America and the area called the Western Spur While every country has its own physical features, much of New America is either mountainous or steppes, dominated by the fearsome Luuranko mountains, which run along almost the entirety of northern New America, though are technically separated from the Occienta mountains, which run along the Western Spur. The Occientan mountains are home to Mount Tanis, the tallest mountain in the region and second tallest in the world. It dominates the area as well as being seen as watching over the area around the Smytallra desert – the Smytallra is in itself an oddity, given its large distance from the equator – it is the direct result of an anomaly in the planet’s ozone, allowing a disproportionate amount of heat and sun light through, leaving much of the area desolate and dry.
Demographics
It is widely thought that much of the region had considerable settlement and even civilisation before the Great Climatic Change which drastically altered the world and likely killed over many thousands in the region – this opened the way for large scale migration from the west and partially from the east. Various different humanoid species currently live in the region, and the majority of the world’s non-terran sentient population can be found in the region – it is unknown how widespread they were or whether there were any other non-terran groups before the Great Climatic Change.

PEEL Colonial Territories
When the nations of the PEEL region began to outgrow their borders, several countries took it upon themselves to find new ways to house their population. The People's Republic of Zedoljev, a small country with a large population, sent out a few teams of explorers to chart claims of nearby landmasses with little or no indigenous inhabitants. What they found were plentiful lands and a chance to make a fresh start.
