The Iansislean General (short for 'general issue coinage') is the currency that continues to be used in most states that formerly comprised the Grand Empire of the Shield and its Dominions. Before the Gull Flag Revolution, generals had never been issued as paper legal tender, only coins. After the Revolution, however, and the war with Effit, hyper-inflation hit the Shield as the government printed paper generals to try and keep up with expenses.
The coins were issued between a keneral (G0.01) and a G10,000,000 coin, which is primarily only an object for the collections of the fabulously wealthy. Each was identified by a monarch on the front and either an animal or a Roman numeral on the back. These coins are now worth relatively more than their face values, as coinage is considered much more valuable than paper money.
Before the Revolution, G1 was roughly equal to £0.215 Walmingtonian. Currently, G1 on the international market is worth roughly £0.027 Walmingtonian.
