It has a hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of around 2 billion people, 18,000-somethingth largest in the world, by the last count. It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of around 65%. A large private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry. Starblaydia's national animal is the Lion, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Credit, worth around US$1.5. Starblaydia is active in both the Sport and Military side of NationStates, on the Jolt-hosted forums and those of its Region, Atlantian Oceania. GeographyWith ten provinces, Starblaydia encompasses the territory formerly owned by the Holy Empire of Nemya to its east. A Mountain-City of Dwarves, exiles from the nation of Cockbill Street, also have residence in Starblaydia, in Karak D'Ragh, the City of Quiet Fire. To the north-west border lies the Loose City-State Association of Nova Britannicus, across the 'Mighty' Bekk lake to the west lies the nation of Druida. Legalese, The Lowland Clans and Pedriana also border the Bekk, creating many 'Bekkside Derbies' which add spice to any sporting occasion between the teams. SportStarblaydia is a community hugely motivated by Sports. Competition and athletic ability are respected and promoted in Starblaydi society, as a way of keeping its population fit and healthy, as well as having a desire to win. FootballThe most popular game in Starblaydia is Football (Soccer), with the largest participation of any sport in the country. The Starblaydi LeagueThe Starblaydi Football League contains three divisions (Alpha, Beta and Gamma), which incorporate 21 teams in total from Starblaydia and Nova Britannicus. Current Champions are Iskara Daii, who won a Regional Invitational Tournament, as well as getting to the Knock-out stages of the Melmond Invitational. The National Team
Lowly 115th-ranked Starblaydia began competing in the Qualifiers for World Cup 15 and have been regular participants ever since, even co-hosting World Cup 20 with Druida. It is the one tournament that every Starblaydi and every Footballer alive today wants to win. A Quarter-Final against Melmond in World Cup 17 is the farthest Starblaydia have progressed in the Finals, though they have made the Finals for World Cups 17 to 19, qualifing for World Cup 20 automatically due to the honour of hosting, finishing up 12th-ranked in the world, over one hundred places higher than twenty years previous.
Starblaydia are currently one of the top Under-21 World Cup teams, having been placed Third in three seperate occasions in the tournament hosted perennially by Total n Utter Insanity. As of Under-21 World Cup 12, they were seeded as the 2nd-best team in the World, behind Three-Time Champions Rejistania. The Under-21s is the main proving ground for would-be International Players and seeing their team gives us an insight into Starblaydi teams of the future. The only Football Trophy Starblaydia have ever won was the 4th AOCAF, where they were playing at home as they hosted the Cup. They have also made the Final on two sperate occasions, being beaten by the NEWI Cefn Druids 4-3 in AOCAF3 and beaten 2-0 by Vilita in the AOCAF6 Final. The AOCAF is seen as the 'B' Team of Starblaydi football, as it occurs at the same time as the World Cup. It does, however, provide an oppurtunity for those players deemed too young, too old or just plain not good enough for the World Cup Sqaud to win glory and honour.
Only twice have Starblaydia competed in the 'CoH', for World Cups 15 and 16. IT is not a good Tournament for Starblaydia, however, as they have only ever won two of their ten games played, with six games lost.
The International Recreation Cup hosted by Cockbill Street, the Eagles Nest-hosted Eagle's Cup and Raptor Claw Jurassic Invitational have all seen Starblaydi competing for glory. A 'Wooden Spoon' and Second Place finish have been gained in the two IRCs, whie a Quarter Final in both an Eagle's Cup and a Jurassic Invitational have been Starblaydia's. Ice HockeyThe National GameAn All-Human League, The NIHIL contains two Divisions, East and West, each containing 7 teams. The Starblaydia National Ice Hockey team, known as the Rayzors, are the most successful Ice Hockey nation in Cherry Cup history, having won the tournament a record two times. In Cherry Cup 5 an all-Human team, who could barely skate in a straight line, somehow managed to take the ultimate prize by beating Tanah Burung in a Seven-Game Final Series. This Cup was marred by the host nation, The Gulf States, having the exclusive broadcasting rights to the tournament which prevented many fans from really getting into the Cup Cherry Cup 6 saw the victorious Rayzors return again, minus Jordy McCliff, though they could not repeat their previous victory as Tanah Burung tookthe title. Cherry Cup 7 was an experiment in Human-Dwarf relations as a team of Humans and Dwarves attempted to reclaim the title. A lack of team unity, however, prevented them from going all the way. Cherry Cup 8 saw an all-dwarf team, coached by the ever-unpredictable Haztarr, dominate throughout the second-half of the Tournament, winning their Qualifing Group on the last Matchday. A 7-0 victory over Kalaallit Nunaat in the Semi-Finals of Cherry Cup 8 resulting in the banning of Dwarven races (and any male or female under 5' and 4'6" respectively) from the Inuit nation as Starblaydia progressed to the Final. There they beat Tanah Burung once again to enter the history books. Cherry Cup 9, currently under way, has so far seen an 11-1 win over hosts Oliverry on the second Matchday, showing that the Defending Champions still have what it takes to win the title once more. Rugby UnionStarblaydia are also one of the top Rugby Union sides in the world, having competed in the 2nd and 3rd Rugby_Union_World_Cups, finishing 4th and 3rd respectively. They also hosted RWC2, having taken over from Aust at the 11th hour. MilitaryAs far as military goes, Starblaydia are the current President-Nation of AORDO and take an active role in that Organisation.
