This page contains information on the current football team of the People’s Democratic Social Republic of Ariddia.

Like several other organisations in Ariddia, it is known as "les Rouge-et-Noirs", in reference to its colours, which are also the national colours.

Note This page refers only to the "new" Ariddian team, not to the teams that played for Ariddia from World Cup 1 to World Cup 11, at which point the PDSRA withdrew from international football. All statistics concern only this "new" team.

Players

Players to watch out for include Sandrine Leduc (#1), Frédéric Clément (#8), Yves al Jahdali (#9), Ue Alt (#12), Ta I (#17) and E Lel (#20).

Sandrine Leduc

Number: 1
Position: goalkeeper
Gender: female
Age: 32
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

A tall woman, with long blond hair, and green-blue eyes. Initially lacking experience, she has increased in skill over recent years.

Leduc wears the captain’s armband whenever Alt is not playing.

Clémentine Ramirez

Number: 2
Position: forward
Gender: female
Age: 26
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Hanifah Kyaw

Number: 3
Position: forward (substitute)
Gender: female
Age: 16
Current Club: Kelsey (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 27

The youngest player ever to join the national team, at the age of 16, Kyaw is a lively, enthusiastic young woman. She has long dark hair, mostly Oriental features, and dark yellowish skin bordering on a brownish hue. She has already joined Frédéric Clément as one of the unofficial spokespersons of the team, and seems perpetually optimistic and cheerful.

Ludovic Hue

Number: 4
Position: goalkeeper (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 30
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

James Fields

Number: 5
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 27
Current Club: Rêvane City FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Wol Eosh

Number: 6
Position: midfield (substitute)
Gender: female
Age: 22
Current Club: Tua Monafu (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 26

A young, West Ariddian-born woman, Eosh was granted Ariddian citizenship shortly before World Cup 26. She was born in poverty, and emigrated with the help of family members already settled in communist Ariddia. Her brown skin is slightly paler than that of most Wymgani, and her hair is dark brown. West Ariddia is requesting her extradition on a charge of petty theft, and Ariddia’s delay in processing the request has created a little tension between the two countries.

She replaces Uol Lat, who has retired from the international stage although he still plays for Arcadia Sport Vereniging '06 in Uhuh-Topia.

Aush Song

Number: 7
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 19
Current Club: Kelsey (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 27

Song is the first football player from the Ariddian Arctic Islands ever to join the national team. A young man with brownish skin and dark hair, Song had never been to Ariddia before, and is still getting used to life in the Isles.

Frédéric Clément

Number: 8
Position: forward
Gender: male
Age: 30
Current Club: Ceridhton Macks (Audioslavia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Traditionally, Ariddian football has always relied quite heavily on its leading forward pair – the most famous being Raphael and Myrtille Ford, and their predecessor Terry Singh. So all eyes are generally on Clément and fellow forward players Faraj (#10) and Ramirez (#2).

Clément has dark brown hair, and a youngish look – younger even than his years. He is quite charismatic, with a quick grin and a friendly attitude towards journalists – and people in general.

Yves al Jahdali

Number: 9
Position: defence
Gender: male
Age: 31
Current Club: Ceridhton United (Audioslavia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

al Jahdali, tall, impassive-looking, with fairly long black hair and dark eyes, is said to be the cohesive force behind Ariddia’s defence, and is the only player never to have missed a match. In the early years of the Cup, Ariddia’s weakness was often its defence, a weakness later remedied but which may spring up again with a still relatively inexperienced team. al Jahdali is there to limit the risk of that happening.

Ismail Faraj

Number: 10
Position: forward
Gender: male
Age: 26
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Jean Kitenge

Number: 11
Position: defence
Gender: male
Age: 30
Current Club: Ceridhton United (Audioslavia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Ue Alt

Number: 12
Position: midfield; captain
Gender: male
Age: 32
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

The team’s captain – an Indigenous Ariddian (or Wymgani) with light brown skin, somewhat ruffled-looking brown hair, and serious green eyes – is only the fourth person to captain Ariddia’s football team, after Michel Boulanger, Ranjit Khan and Wn Wahd. Thus it is up to Alt to pick up where his predecessors left off. He is seen as a capable leader, liked and trusted by his team-mates, but, like the rest of the team, he is still relatively inexperienced faced with the best nations in the world. . .

Peter Roberts

Number: 13
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 31
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Tim Wald

Number: 14
Position: defence
Gender: male
Age: 28
Current Club: Ousevale Borough (Krytenia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

André Delherbe

Number: 15
Position: midfield
Gender: male
Age: 27
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Anan Bounthaiyavong

Number: 16
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 29
Current Club: Asuncion (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Ta I

Number: 17
Position: midfield
Gender: female
Age: 27
Current Club: Tapia Reis (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

I, an Indigenous Ariddian, is a versatile player that some are already comparing to Ranjit Khan. Although not as talented perhaps as some of her team-mates, she has proved herself a solid, reliable presence on the field, with an ability to adapt to a variety of situations and defend as well as she attacks.

Stadia in Ariddia

Stadia in Ariddia, a relatively underdeveloped country, may well be suitable for casual and domestic games, but with the nation opening up anew to the international football stage, it was felt necessary to redo a few stadia for home matches against foreign teams.

At present, five stadia are used for welcoming foreign national teams: Stade National Rêvane-Sud, Wavecrest City Stadium, Haven-Port-Nouveau Stadium, Darras Olympic Stadium (in the vicinity of Rêvane), and the Arctic National Stadium. Wavecrest City Stadium was the first to host an international match, shortly before the beginning of World Cup 25: a friendly against Alasdair I Frosticus. The Arctic National Stadium was redone to current standards after World Cup 25, and was used in World Cup 26; it is located in the Ariddian Arctic Islands, and has seen only a handful of matches.

The ulek

The ulek is an ancient Wymgani war chant performed by the team's players at the beginning of every match. For more information, see the article on the ulek.
