The Starblaydia national football team represents Starblaydia in international football competitions such as the World Cup and the Atlantian Oceania Championships. It is controlled by the Starblaydi Football Association (SFA), the governing body for football in the nation.

Starblaydia are one of the many Atlantian Oceania nations who have won the World Cup, winning both World Cups 25 and 28. In addition to their Second-Place finish at World Cup 30, this makes Starblaydia the 6th-most successful nation in the World Cup ever.

Starblaydia have also won the Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football - the premier regional football tournament in the world - five times, a record tally. Formerly 'stuck' on four titles alongside the great NEWI Cefn Druids teams of the past, who hold four AOCAF trophies in their cabinet far, far away, Starblaydia took the record by beating age-old enemies Lamoni in the AOCAF 14 Final. This also made Starblaydia only the second team to do the international 'Double' of winning World Cup and AOCAF at the same time. Previously only Vilita had such an acheivement, beating Starblaydia in the AOCAF6 Final as well as winning the 20th World Cup, which Starblaydia co-hosted with Druida. The Starblaydia Under-21s have also won the 14th Under-21 World Cup. The other trophies in the national cabinet include the second Four Nations Invitational, an Olympic Championship and the inaugural Indigenous World Cup.

Starblaydia became the first team to be ranked both #1 in the world and #1 in the footballing super-power of Atlantian Oceania at the same time. After World Cup 29 and AOCAF15, Starblaydia's "A" and "B" teams were top-ranked in their respective competitions, making Starblaydia not only the best team in the world, but also with the most strength in depth, truly a great achievement. In the aftermath of this ranking achievement, Starblaydia's men's Olympic team were crowned Champions and gold medal winners at Ashford, Casari, in the First Summer Olympics.

Starblaydia are ranked ninth on the all-time list of footballing nations, as measured by the Spaam Ranking System, and were inducted into the World Cup Nation Hall of Fame - also maintained by the Spaamanian Football Association - after World Cup 27. Due to an immense regional war with the Strategic Defense League, Starblaydia failed to enter a team from World Cup 35 onwards.

History

For further information see the Starblaydia national football team history article

Starblaydia began their quest for international footballing dominance in World Cup 15 - without participating in a Baptism of Fire - and qualified for their first World Cup eight years later for World Cup 17. Starblaydia co-hosted World Cup 20 with Druida, earning a place on the World Cup Committee (as it was at the time, now Emergency WCC) and strengthening their international presence. In World Cup 25 Starblaydia took their first title, cementing their place as one of the world's greats in World Cup 28 with a second. After World Cup 29 they were ranked as the number-one team in the world and also number one in the region of sporting superpowers, Atlantian Oceania.

Home Stadium

Starblaydia do not have a single 'national stadium' like many other nations, instead the national team takes on the role of a travelling cricus and tours the nation's primary stadia to bring the team to all parts of the country for home matches.

Jhanna City's Jader Barbahlo stadium is the largest in the country, seating 96,000 fans and is most often used for the most-important occasions. The main Stadia in the cities of Jhanna, Tabeck, Corinth, Vecchio and Penningworth play host to the national team most regularly.

Kit

Starblaydia have traditionally worn white shirts, shorts and socks with purple trim and since their inception, white socks. Their away kit is traditionally a reverse of this, with purple shirts, shorts and socks with white trim. Other away kits worn by Starblaydia - particularly in the more minor tournaments away from the World Cup and AOCAF - have included kits containing mostly yellow, gold, green, bronze or black.

The Starblaydi sportswear company Ediraf have always provided the kits for Starblaydia's team, from their very first outings debuted at World Cup 15. A major overhaul for the entire kit range, then adopted by many other nations, took place before World Cup 25.

Player names and numbers

For Starblaydi players and fans, squad numbers - particularly the starting eleven - are traditionally associated with a certain position, but there are no set rules. Furthermore, established players will tend to use the same number whenever they play. This has been a part of Starblaydi football since it first began, and the team has kept to the tradition of numbering players from 1 to 11 (12 and upwards for substitutes) for every tournament. Traditionally: 1 will always be the Goalkeeper, along with 12 for the first reserve 'keeper. Full-Backs take 2 and 3, the defensive Midfielder takes 4, Centre-Backs are handed 5 and 6. Wide Midfielders take the 7 and 11 shirts, the central attacking Midfielder is usually 8, while the Strikers tend to be 9 and 10. Beyond this, up to the squad maximum of 23, numbers are assigned in many varying ways.
