This page contains information on the current football team of the People’s Democratic Social Republic of Ariddia.

Like several other organisations in Ariddia, it is known as "les Rouge-et-Noirs", in reference to its colours, which are also the national colours.

Note This page refers only to the "new" Ariddian team, not to the teams that played for Ariddia from World Cup 1 to World Cup 11, at which point the PDSRA withdrew from international football. All statistics concern only this "new" team.

Squad

Squad

The following is the squad representing Ariddia in World Cup 29:

GK: Sandrine Leduc (capt; 1)
DEF: Tim Wald (14); James Fields (5); Thérèse Chantier (4)

After World Cup 28, several players in their mid-thirties retired, opening up places for new, younger team members. Four players (Chantier, Granville, Teh, al Safi) were called upon from the national female team, and now compete in both. The team currently has its highest ever proportion of women (9, of which 6 in the starting 11). it also includes 5 Indigenous Ariddians, of which 3 are women.

Formation

Half-way through the qualifying stages of World Cup 25, facing a dismal 0-1-8 record and having scored only one goal in nine matches, Ariddia switched from a balanced style to one of all-out attack – and from a 5-3-2 formation to 3-4-3. This formation has been maintained ever since.

Temporary players

Several players were unable to take part in the 19th Cup of Harmony and the 2nd Draggonni Inviyatii Cup due to club commitments, and new, temporary players were called upon. Carl Labarque, William Smith, Ie Ewe, Jeanne Finnan and Michelle Dru were all amateurs who had previously competed in the first Ylompic Games, while Nam Hyok-Jun was a professional from the Ariddian Arctic Islands. Smith and Nam both subsequently remained with the national team.

Players

Players to watch out for include Sandrine Leduc (#1), Ta I (#17) and Hanifah Kyaw (#3).

Sandrine Leduc

Number: 1
Position: goalkeeper, captain
Gender: female
Age: 40
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

A tall woman, with long blond hair, and green-blue eyes. The oldest and most experienced player on the team, Leduc is also its first ever female captain.

Clémentine Ramirez

Number: 2
Position: forward
Gender: female
Age: 34
Current Club: FC Sébazac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Hanifah Kyaw

Number: 3
Position: midfield
Gender: female
Age: 24
Current Club: Kelsey (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 27

The youngest player ever to have joined the national team, at the age of 16, Kyaw is a lively, enthusiastic young woman. She has long dark hair, mostly Oriental features, and dark yellowish skin bordering on a brownish hue. She has become the unofficial spokeswoman of the team, and seems perpetually optimistic and cheerful.

At the end of World Cup 27, with an average of over one goal per match, Kyaw moved from being a substitute attacker to being a midfielder and part of the starting eleven.

Thérèse Chantier

Number: 4
Position: defence
Gender: female
Age: 25
Current Club: FC Valvert (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 29

Like Cécile Granville (#11), Chloé al Safi (#12) and Uha Teh (#13), Chantier joined the female national team before being selected to the "mixed gender" team as well.

James Fields

Number: 5
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 35
Current Club: Rêvane City FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Wol Eosh

Number: 6
Position: midfield
Gender: female
Age: 30
Current Club: Tua Monafu (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 26

A young, West Ariddian-born woman, Eosh was granted Ariddian citizenship shortly before World Cup 26. She was born in poverty, and emigrated with the help of family members already settled in communist Ariddia. Her brown skin is slightly paler than that of most Wymgani, and her hair is dark brown.

West Ariddia requested her extradition on a charge of petty theft, and attempted to have her seized by the Audioslavian authorities during World Cup 26. The PDSRA subsequently denied the extradition request.

Aush Song

Number: 7
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 27
Current Club: Kelsey (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 27

Song is the first football player from the Ariddian Arctic Islands ever to join the national team. He integrated the team at the age of just 19.

Julien Prévert

Number: 8
Position: defence (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 24
Current Club: Port-Espérence FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 29

Tadjou Sheyi Senaya

Position: midfield (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 25

Position: forward
Gender: male
Age: 34
Current Club: Union Sportive d'Albinhac (Nouvelle Macedoine)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

Cécile Granville

Number: 11
Position: goalkeeper (substitute)
Gender: female
Age: 26
Current Club: Ahu'eo FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 29

Like Thérèse Chantier (#4), Chloé al Safi (#12) and Uha Teh (#13), Granville joined the female national team before being selected to the "mixed gender" team as well.

Chloé al Safi

Number: 12
Position: midfield (substitute)
Gender: female
Age: 19
Current Club: none
First WC appearance: World Cup 29

Like Thérèse Chantier (#4), Cécile Granville (#11) and Uha Teh (#13), al Safi joined the female national team before being selected to the "mixed gender" team as well. She is one of only two non-professional players on the team, the other being William Smith (#15).

Uha Teh

Number: 13
Position: midfield (substitute)
Gender: female
Age: 21
Current Club: Clearlake FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 29

Like Thérèse Chantier (#4), Cécile Granville (#11) and Chloé al Safi (#12), Teh joined the female national team before being selected to the "mixed gender" team as well.

Tim Wald

Number: 14
Position: defence
Gender: male
Age: 36
Current Club: Ousevale Borough (Krytenia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

William Smith

Number: 15
Position: forward (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 27
Current Club: none
First WC appearance: World Cup 28

Smith is one of only two non-professional players in the team (the other being al Safi, #12). Before joining the national team, he competed as part of Ariddia's male Olympic team in the Tyrellian Ylompic Games.

Nam Hyok-Jun

Number: 16
Position: forward (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 24
Current Club: Fetuo FC (Ariddian Arctic Islands)
First WC appearance: World Cup 28

Nam is the second Ariddian Arctic Islander to join the national team, after Aush Song.

Ta I

Number: 17
Position: midfield
Gender: female
Age: 35
Current Club: Tapia Reis (Andossa Se Mitrin Vega)
First WC appearance: World Cup 25

I, an Indigenous Ariddian, is a versatile player that some are already comparing to Ranjit Khan. Although not as talented perhaps as some of her team-mates, she has proved herself a solid, reliable presence on the field, with an ability to adapt to a variety of situations and defend as well as she attacks.

Cyril Lange

Number: 18
Position: midfield (substitute)
Gender: male
Age: 32
Current Club: Tojas FC (Ariddia)
First WC appearance: World Cup 26

Lange is the great-grandson of the famous Lily Mayantar, but was born in Ariddia of her emigrant grand-daughter. He is reputed to be a skilled player himself, although he has had relatively few opportunities to prove himself so far. He has red-tinged blond hair, and very pale brown skin.

Stadia in Ariddia

Stadia in Ariddia, a relatively underdeveloped country, may well be suitable for casual and domestic games, but with the nation opening up anew to the international football stage, it was felt necessary to redo a few stadia for home matches against foreign teams.

At present, five stadia are used for welcoming foreign national teams: Stade National Rêvane-Sud, Wavecrest City Stadium, Haven-Port-Nouveau Stadium, Darras Olympic Stadium (in the vicinity of Rêvane), and the Arctic National Stadium. Wavecrest City Stadium was the first to host an international match, shortly before the beginning of World Cup 25: a friendly against Alasdair I Frosticus. The Arctic National Stadium was redone to current standards after World Cup 25, and was used in World Cup 26; it is located in the Ariddian Arctic Islands, and has seen only a handful of matches.

The ulek

The ulek is an ancient Wymgani war chant performed by the team's players at the beginning of every match. For more information, see the article on the ulek.
