It has a hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of over 2 and a Quarter Billion people, 10,700th-largest in the world by the last census. It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of around 55%. A healthy private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry. Starblaydia's national animal is the Lion, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Credit, worth around US$1.6.
HistoryAs a land, Starblaydia has always been populated in one form or another, from simple prehistoric tribesmen through thundering Medieval warlords up to the high-tech, stylish and modern present day, though the nation itself was only designated as 'Starblaydia' from the 19th Century on as an Imperial Colony, but soon it emerged as a World Power. To the north-west border lies the Loose City-State Association of Nova Britannicus, across the 'Mighty' Bekk lake to the west lies the nation of Druida. Legalese and The Lowland Clans also border the Bekk, creating many 'Bekkside Derbies' which add spice to any occasion, sporting or otherwise, between these nations. NationalityThough most countries assume a person from Starblaydia is a Starblaydian, the correct term is Starblaydi. Races and Ethnic GroupsStarblaydia is quite a melting pot of various cultures, as browsing the names on lists such as the Starblaydia All-Time XI nominations will prove. The different cultures all add to the unique, exciting and colourful mix of Starblaydi life, an experience not found anywhere else in the world.
ReligionThe government of Starblaydia is avowedly aethist, something which has been stated and proven many times, but creates no official barriers to religious worship. It merely fails to encourage the spread of religion. LanguagesAfter the Britannic Empire's rule, English was in standard useage everywhere, replacing anything that had come before it. With English also being the standard language for the rest of the world, there seems no need for Starblaydis to learn any other language.

GovernmentGovernment TypeAutocratic Dictatorship National GovernmentThe Protectorate of Starblaydia is ruled by its Lord-Protector, who is currently Tiberius Starblayde. The Lord-Protector has absolute power over the land and its people, and he rules his nation with a select Council of Ministers. Upon nomination to the Council, the Councillor is immediately ennobled and titled Lord or Lady. The one exception to this nobility-creation was the Dwarven King, who had no use for such a title. It is extremely unlikely for all twelve councillors and the Lord-Protector to be in session at any one time, as a number of them are usually away on various missions for the good of Starblaydia. Local GovernmentThough the Nation is ruled overall by the Lord-Protector, each Province has its own elected Governor, who is responsible for the more mundane day-to-day running of each of the twelve provinces. Though elected by the people, these Governors must accept the will of the Lord-Protector. PoliticsThough the varied political parties within Starblaydia all claim to have differing 'best' ways of running each province, in reality they are all part of the same political machine. All parties, candidates and policies must be registered and approved by the state. This means that whoever is elected, they will all be 'appropriate' for the job, as decided by the Lord-Protector. As political 'extremists' - such as extreme Democracists and Communists - will often hold criminal convictions for belonging to illegal political organisations, their influence on the political process within Starblaydia is marginal at best. International OrganisationsAORDOThe respect commanded by Starblaydia's general and military standing in the region led General Aerys Fyreskar to be voted as the President of all AORDO forces. This also led to AORDO's Headquarters being located in the Bekkside Starblaydi city of Tabeck. Strategic AllianceStarblaydia, Tiberius Starblayde in particular, was the driving force behind the creation of the Strategic Alliance of Autocratic States, and also drew up the initial Lavingrad Pact which all member nations have to sign up to. The Strategic Alliance is largely recognised as the most-powerful independant national organisation in the region of Atlantian Oceania. World Cup CommitteeStarblaydia was given a place on the World Cup Committee after the honour of co-hosting the highly-successful World Cup 20 with Druida. Under the reformed WCC system, Starblaydia's previous hosting honour and #sport activity also placed them in the 'rapid-reaction' Emergency World Cup Committee. Lord Rikaard Van Honjiik represents Starblaydia on the committee, though he is usually accompanied by Starblaydi footballers of some note.
SportStarblaydia is a nation hugely motivated by Sports and sporting prowess. Competition and athletic ability are highly respected and promoted in Starblaydi society, as a way of keeping its population fit and healthy, as well as having a more-than healthy desire to win. Starblaydia are one of the most famous nations in the world of sport, be it Football, Rugby, Ice Hockey or any number of a myriad of events. International RivalsFootball RivalsWith Starblaydia having been around for, at the last count, 8 World Cups (24 years' worth of competition), there are many, many nations that Starblaydia consider themselves rivals with. FootballThe most popular game in Starblaydia is Football (known in more-backward countries as Soccer), with the largest participation of any sport in the country. It is perhaps the sport for which Starblaydia are most well-known, with their Under-21 Championship and three AOCAF titles, not to mention being a team no-one would wish to face in a World Cup match. The Starblaydi LeagueThe Starblaydi Football League used to contain three divisions (Alpha, Beta and Gamma), which incorporated 21 teams in total from Starblaydia and Nova Britannicus. Due to outside League influences, the Alpha, Beta and Gamma Divisions were merged to form Liga Starblaydia to make the Starblaydi domestic season comply with more-accepted international standards. the Liga Omega is the feeder-league to this division, comprising mostly amateur teams and relegated Liga Starblaydia sides. Liga Ipsilon is the all-women's league in Starblaydia, although there is no official barrier to prevent female players from playing in Ligas Starblaydia or Omega. 20 Teams compete in Liga Starblaydia, and 18 in Liga Omega.
The National Football Team
More than a generation ago, lowly 115th-ranked Starblaydia began competing in the Qualifiers for World Cup 15 and have been regular participants ever since, even co-hosting World Cup 20 with Druida. It is the one tournament that every Starblaydi and every footballer in the world alive today wants to win. A Quarter-Final against Melmond in World Cup 17 is the farthest Starblaydia have progressed in the Finals, though they have made the Finals for World Cups 17 through 22, qualifing for World Cup 20 automatically due to the honour of hosting. Starblaydia are the 12th-ranked in the world, over one hundred places higher than thirty years previous. Current record Cap-holder and leading goal-scorer is World Cup Hall of Famer Simeone Di Bradini with 84 Caps and 44 Goals. Starblaydia are certainly a footballing force to be reckoned with, and their trademark all-white kit with purple trim can strike fear into the heart of the most-experienced footballers around the world.
The Starblaydia Under-21 programme is the best-run Youth System in the world, having been producing some of the best Under-21 teams in the world for over a quarter of a century. This came to fruition in Under-21 World Cup 14, where they took the Championship, never mind the two other Finals appearance, and 5 3rd-Place medals. Starblaydia's first ever international football trophy was the 4th AOCAF, where they were playing at home as they hosted the Cup, beating NEWI Cefn Druids 2-1 in the Final. They have also made the Final on three other occasions, being beaten by the NEWI Cefn Druids 4-3 in AOCAF3 and beaten 2-0 by Vilita in the AOCAF6 Final. IN AOCAF7 Starblaydia came storming through unbeaten in the competition to defeat Krytenia in the Final for a second title. The very next Tournament, AOCAF8, Starblaydia won seven straight games to retain their title, something not achieved since the great Druidish teams of a generation ago. The AOCAF is seen as the 'B' Team of Starblaydi football, as it occurs at the same time as the World Cup. It does, however, provide an oppurtunity for those players deemed too young, too old or just plain not good enough for the World Cup Sqaud to win glory and honour.
Only twice have Starblaydia competed in the 'CoH', for World Cups 15 and 16. It is not a good Tournament for Starblaydia, however, as they have only ever won two of their ten games played, with six games lost. Though when a Competition has been won twice by Kylaai and once by lowly friends and neighbours Nova Britannicus, one wonders how valuable that tournament really is.
The International Recreational Cup hosted by Cockbill Street, the Eagles Nest-hosted Eagle's Cup and Raptor Claw Jurassic Invitational have all seen Starblaydi teams competing for glory. A 'Wooden Spoon' and Second Place finish have been gained in the two IRCs, whie a Quarter Final in both an Eagle's Cup and a Jurassic Invitational have been Starblaydia's. Liverpool England hosted the second Four Nations Invitational to promote their World Cup 22 bid and Starblaydia won this tournament by coming Second in the Group play and beating Lethislavania in the Final.

The Starblaydia National Ice Hockey team, known as the Rayzors, are the most successful non-robotic, non Tanah-Burungi Ice Hockey nation in Cherry Cup history, having won the tournament a joint-record two times. They tie only nouveau-hockey-superpower Robotopolis and arch-nemesis Tanah Burung on number of Cherry Cups won. The Rayzors' motto is "Rayzors all the way, baby!"
Rugby UnionStarblaydia are also one of the top Rugby Union sides in the world, having competed in the 2nd and 3rd Rugby_Union_World_Cups, finishing 4th and 3rd respectively. AthleticsStarblaydia's amateur athletes have competed in cancelled Olympic and AOlympic Summer and Winter Games, winning Gold medals in various events, particularly Rowing. In the cancelled Kaza '08 Olympic games, Starblaydia ended up fourth in the medals table with 4 Gold and 2 Silver medals, all won in or on the water. Motor SportMany forms of Motor Racing are contested in Starblaydia, from Formula 1-style to Rallying, classic car races and all sorts of other categories. MilitaryStarblaydia are the current President-Nation of AORDO and take an active role in that Organisation. Starblaydia maintains a marginally post-modern tech Military, and spends around a quarter of its GDP on the military, with another quarter on Law and Order. Starblaydia's overriding military doctrine is of highly-trained, lavishly equipped and well-supported forces striking quickly with precision and skill. Around 2% of the national population serve at one level or another within the military. Air ForceA small but powerful Starblaydi Air Force (SAF) is at the cutting edge of flight technology, with Müber Aerospace Inudstries being the primary domestic defence contractor to the SAF. Originally the SAF started out with no more than a handful of Hawk fighter-trainers from their time under the Britannic Empire. This has grown, however, into a thriving domestic industry producing some excellent top-of-the-range fighters and interceptors. Powerful air defences and mobile electronic intelligence craft augment this capability, giving Starblaydia a deadly aerial capacity. ArmyGeneral Aerys Fyreskar is both head of the Army and Lord-Commander of the Starblaydi Armed Forces, ledby a powerful Crookfur-sold T-7 Gilgamesh tank backbone. The Starblaydi Army often relies on the flexible armoured fist of Armoured Cavalry Regiments to smash anything in their way. Smaller in number than most armies of equivalent nations, the average Starblaydi Private is filled to the eyeballs with training, technology and information, a crucial triumvirate for success. The National Training Centre for Armoured and Mechanised Divisions is located in Hippion, Tournetas. Admiral Yanosh Clarke heads the Starblaydi Navy, which includes a mighty Doujin Infusion-Class Aircraft Carrier at its head. A domestic shipbuilding industry has also sprang up, constructing warships of the highest quality. Starblaydia's large and powerful navy spends most of time patrolling Altantian Oceania waters. Special ForcesThe Venators are the Starblaydi Special Forces, and are occasionally called into action in the most dangerous or specialised circumstances. They are, simply, the elite of Starblaydia's fighting forces. Whenever supersoldiers are required, the Venators are there, ready to step up to any challenge. Intelligence ServicesOperationsPeacekeeping in KryteniaAfter Xile bombed the AOlympic games in Krytenia, the government of Krytenia fled the region of Atlantian Oceania and moved to a haven in FIFA. Unfortunately as a result of Xile's actions, an Anti-Xilean Fatwah sprang up in former-Krytenian territory. A cohort of troops, mostly from Starblaydia, travelled the length of Krytenia in peacekeeping operations until the Krytenian government returned and the Fatwah leaders were captured. War on LataoWith increasingly-unstable rehtoric and actions coming from the government of Latao, Latao was ejected from the FLMS and AORDO at the same time, while purchasing Nuclear weapons from Lamoni. Starblaydia and it's ally, Abattoir, could not let this situation stand and so launched a naval and air attack upon Latao, with the intention of destroying the weapons of mass destruction and removing the Latin government.
